A Simple Tale by GFM

[raw]
made by GFM for LD35 (COMPO)
This game is about a simple tale.

You've probably already heard something similar to it...

Controls:
- Space = action (advance text, attack)
- Arrow keys/WASD = movement

---------------------------

This game is based on the "Beauty and the Beast" tale. (http://pdsh.wikia.com/wiki/Beauty_and_the_Beast)

As soon as I found out it belongs to the public domain, I thought it would be a interesting starting point... Unfortunately, I couldn't really add all that I wanted, since I ran out of time.

The game was pretty difficult, but still fun. Also, the music was really nice. After a couple minutes, I got the hang of it and starting killing the monsters. When I died the first time, I was like, Yay a story!

". . . but thats a story for another day."

Great job overall, and nice graphics. Maybe zoom the camera in a wee bit more.

@Flygamer101, erm... yeah... I'm sorry about that. I almost wasn't even able to finish this version (the story, specially, was really rushed).

That was supposed to be only the intro to the game. You'd later have to explore the prince's castle in search of items. Each one would unlock another piece of the story, that you would have to put together at the end of the game... Unfortunately, I didn't have much time.

I'll think about the zoom, but, for now, I think that it actually needs more contrast between the prince and its attack and the background.

Thanks for the comment! =D

Nice concept! Interesting how you applied Beauty and the Beast to this theme!
Game was simple enough, but the graphics and sound are great! I would really like to see the rest of the story!
It was also quite hard, since it's basically one hit kill, but I know I were supposed to lose there xp

Anyway, great entry!

Graphics and audio are pretty cool, would have prefer bigger characters but not bad though !

The difficulty beat me !

It's a lovely start, and I especially liked your art, but sadly not much of a game so far.

Nice old-fashioned graphics, and a good background score (though some notes were a little harsh through my headphones).

It's a shame you didn't have more time to develop this, but the base game is solid enough! Perhaps being able to take three hits before the game ends would make it last a little longer, though. I found myself staring at the ending screen pretty quickly, which was a bit of a disappointment.

THIS REMINDS ME OF "I WANNA BE THE GUY" GRAPHICS WISE AND DIFFICULTY WISE. THAT WAS HARDER BUT U KNOW WHAT I MEAN

I like the mechanic, simple and funny. Sometimes the game can be repetitive but it's ok. Great work!

After some time it gets pretty challenging! Nice one! :) I wonder what would've happened if you took a bit more time and went for the jam. :P

I think you've nailed the 8-bit style for the game in graphics, sound and, also, control feeling. It's a shame you couldn't put more into the game, but it's already a nice arcade-style game! ;)

Also, including a common tale, with a shapeshifting theme behind, was a great idea! :D

Great work! :)
