Birty Land Gif More Optimized.gif

You are a soldier sent to conquer a far off place. The land of a creature know as Birty. This lifeform is weak alone, but a group may be very dangerous. Please note that a Birty only attacks when it hears a bullet shoot.

Birty Land Screen 2.png

After you kill a Birty or, especially, destroy its hive, you can increase your equipment level, but take care: The requirement may be very high if your level was so.

Birty Land Screen 3.png

But the most dangerous thing in these lands was the Birty's ability of copy and improve. From time to time, the Birties create a clone of they predator copying even his weapons and behaviour. The more time that you spend in these lands, the stronger the generated copies will be.

My best time was 41 seconds. Those Birty's really lay the smack down! I liked how the mech's movement noise was like a music beat, pretty cool idea there! One thing that'd improve it for me is if I could see a bit more of the surrounding area so that i'd be able to see the birties coming. Great job, see you next jam :)

Very nice execution of existing mechanics turned into a small game. It really felt like an RPG and makes me want to play more to upgrade. My biggest problems are the walking sounds are really annoying and when you play in full screen the way you textured the grass is really dizzying when in motion . Other than that really good job, especially the Birty cloning the player, that's a cool mechanic.

Cool game! It's a little bit hard to avoid things so maybe make it so you can move faster. Other than that it's an amazing game!

The music cues you used are really great! The rhythm of the footsteps is also really satisfying. At times though it felt like there was too much sound happening all at once at too loud a volume. It'd be cool to see expansion of enemy types and upgrades. Great job!

Thank you all for the feedback! I'm thinking about release a post-jam version with some suggestions.

@quixatocs, you can see a little more area on full screen mode.

@darkgrisen, you can upgrade your speed at pause menu (press space). You earn points destroying the Birties and their hives.

I don't know if it was intentional, but I liked the way your steps sounded like a music, having a rhythm and all. The con is that the game is endless with no real challenge, after 8 minutes or so I realized that nothing special was going to happen and just stopped playing. Maybe a final challenge or a real ending would be a great addition to your game. A satisfying reward.

I played for 10 minutes and quit afterwards. I like the idea in general, I just with it was more challenging, or at least not endless. I enjoyed the two moments when new types of enemies began to spawn.

Nice game - had lots of fun. The gameplay was nicely scaling in difficulty (Except perhaps starts off a bit hard). Interesting mechanics.

It's too difficult at the start. The game has great aesthetics, and I love the rpg elements.

Very good game! Took me a while to get into it (controls), but once I managed to upgrade a few times it was quite fun.

Nice game but very difficult

Man, the enemy that shows up at 1 minute is pretty tough. Once I got to about 5 minutes or so I just lost interest, however, as there was no obvious sense of scaling or progression. Maybe some form of reward, or more ways of increasing the difficulty?

Cool looking font. Nice 80's computer style music. Really takes me back. Very nostalgic. You replicated quite well how C64 games were back then. It's a fully functional game with upgrade system and everything.

Thank you all for the comments! Thanks to the feedback received, I created a Post-Jam version. Link on page. This version contains several improvements, but the most important changes are the balance ones and the instructions who are clearer.

@lex, @zinkler, @aurel I made a mistake in the code, so the bigger clones won't gain speed. Anyway, the balance was greatly changed on Post-Jam version. Checkout!
