SnowStorm by Timps

[raw]
made by Timps for LD 39 (JAM)

My first ever Ludum Dare. First ever game jam. First ever game.

Built using Unity and Playmaker. All graphics made by me for the game.

SnowStorm is set during a big snowstorm. The power is out and you need to run around your house and use batteries to keep things going. You need to keep the fridge cold, the lizard warm, the fish tank clean, and the tv on to keep the rest of the family happy.

Here it is: http://games.e-timpa.com/SnowStorm/

I have learned so much this weekend. Hopefully for future game jam events I'm not looking up Unity docs and Playmaker guides in the middle of doing things.

I swear I built and then rebuilt 3/4 of the game.

But I had the time of my life, and I finished my first ever game.

Enjoy, feedback is absolutely welcomed, tell me anything you think of.

NB it glitches out sometimes if you grab a battery from too close.

TODO: Sound. More things to power. Random battery drops. Things to open and find batteries. Some NPC family and pets.

I love your energy and passion. Enjoy the time of your life!
About the game: great first attempt making videogames. You've got the idea, now it's time to polish. First of all, find people to work with. It is not easy but man it helps a lot. Before you redo everything, think about it one or two days. Is everything in the right position? Does the game feel hard or easy? It is a need to jump like Mario Bros in a resource management game? All this sort of things.
I really wish you luck and oc, great game!

Congratulations on bringing an awesome game to Ludum Dare!
Some minor flaws I encountered:
The controls glitched out sometimes (it helped to drop the battery).
The battery needs to snap to those target devices or you need to inform the player they are in the right position. It kind of worked for the TV because it turned on. Maybe make the lizard somersault and the fish blub heart shaped bubbles?
The mirrored numbers on the battery are confusing. You need to separate those objects or flip only the battery image.
Keep up the great work!

Amazing first game! This is my first time too :D So, cheers. Loved the concept.
Anyway, beautifully executed. Graphics are fine, gameplay is smooth. Would've appreciated a help and sound! But nonetheless, really loved your work. Congratulations and good luck! Hope to see you in future jams too! :D

For a first go by working alone, it's pretty good. It took me some time to figure out where to put the batteries to charge everything, but at the end I was playing soccer with them to send them where I need.

This was fun, especially as your first game. I really liked your style of graphics, and it was a fun idea once I got going. The controls glitched occasionally for me, and it would be nice to have some clearer/faster feedback to tell when the batteries are correctly "attached," since they didn't charge sometimes. Overall good job!

Congratulations on finishing your first game. Good job! Keep going. Some basic sound would add a lot of feedback and feel.

Great first game. :D
It would be more challenging when the uncharged things would give more feedback to the player. For example the fridge starting to drone. Backgroundmusic would be nice too.
I loved to play with the batteries and at the end I have build a chimney on the roof. xD

Note: I have upload a Post-Jam version of my game. You can enter the door now. :)

Good job for your first game ! The idle animation on the player was not so good, you have to make the head and the body goes up and down, not the legs. And also it needs some sounds. Otherwise, good entry !

Very nice use of the theme, recharging the appliances and even having the tv turn off when it ran out of energy was a great touch. Running around with batteries was enjoyable as well, even though gripping them broke from time to time. Also, later in the game, the controls broke for me and I wasn't able to move anymore. The energy readouts were displayed under the the titles. It would also be nice to have a bit of sound, but I guess there just wasn't enough time for that.
Overall, since this was your first game, it's impressive you made it in such a short time. Well done and keep on trucking.

I liked the concept, very nice use of the theme, unfortunately i was not able to position the batteries correctly as i glitched through the level borders, somehow picking the battery up suddenly gave me an immense horizontal speed.

Good idea though...

I got 15050. This was a pretty good idea. It's also a lot more fun if you pretend it's curling and shove the batteries around instead of pushing them! The controls for picking up the batteries were a bit hard to use. It would have been good to have a clear, visual indication of whether I was holding the battery (as opposed to it just sitting in front of me). Also, I think dead batteries still charge things just fine (I left one sitting on the lizard dock for most of the game).

It's a good concept, sadly that it also is very unfinished.
Obviating the glitches, the controls feel pretty good.
Keep working on it!
