Typer Boost by petitpois

[raw]
made by petitpois for LD 41 (JAM)

purpleBoarderLogo.png Typer Boost is a game combining typing and jumping. It is a combination of reading, reflexes and timing.

BACKGROUND

You are the inventor of a hoverboard powered by words. As your colleague Nita rides through the streets of London, you control her board remotely by typing the words on your screen - the words are based on gaming.

OBJECTIVE

Successful typing of an on-screen word will result in Typer boost which will add a jump boost to the board. Type as many words as you can, whilst trying to survive the onslaught of obstacles on the streets of London. Collect coins to buy more equipment.

Hey!
your submission is missing UnityPlayer.dll maybe you should build it again...
Good luck!

Thanks @daniel-rincon for that I have updated the file and I have uploaded a web version to play in the browser.

Nice game! I like the lava at the end of the keyboard. Not an easy game I will say, but overall, fun!

This game is kind of hard, but I'm not a proper typist so that's probably my issue (my son's high 18 words). Perhaps I should play this as a daily practice regimen. In any case, I like the combined typing/jumping mechanics.

I like this game a lot, but it is pretty frustrating, especially when you have to type really long words in such a short amount of time. Other than that, a really cute game!

Very interesting idea. I love the graphics and the idea. The sounddesign is nice and it has a certain "typing of the dead" level of ridiculousness to it. The only thing that kind of bothered me a bit was the way I sometimes had (or at least felt that I had to) time my word entries correct so I would barely make another jump above an obstacle. Still enjoyed the game :)

Very nice! I find it weirdly difficult to brace myself and wait to execute the jump with the final letter, but it's fun :D

I really enjoyed this game. I usually ended up typing most of a word and leaving the final letter to actually jump the next obstacle, although in some situations the word was too long and several obstacles were too close. Maybe it needs a bit more balance. But then again, great idea! It's really fun
Good work!

Very cool, I just hope I won't get the habit of typing every word without the last letter!
I did not understood why Nita tried some backflips sometimes because it made me loose every time :(

Also, I would have liked it better if you could just stack jumps and use them when wanted because if a long word come between two close obstacles, well, that was near impossible (and i'm a fast typer). Or maybe juste make words spawn closer so we can fly :D

Anyway, good job!

Idea is very cool, congratz :)

Maybe the colliders could be a little smaller, I easily get frustrated when in the middle of the jump I collide with a barrell or other thing xD

Without that, very cool, I like that you have to do both things to not die. (Jumping and not letting words pass)

cool game. my typing speed is low, so i died a lot, but it was fun trying to go further and get a better time

I am really using this to increase my typing speed rather than those boring sentence on websites. one of really good games I found in this ludum dare.

As others have said, timing my jumps got pretty frustrating with the taller (and sometimes wider) obstacles.

The one time I actually got coins, I think I hit a gray wall I didn't realize was an obstacle.

Not sure if there's an upgrade system in place; my coins didn't carry over between runs and I wasn't enjoying it enough to attempt a substantiually longer run.

That said, this is one of the best incompatibilities I've seen so far :)

I didn't get a chance to add a shop for buying items, I was meant to change the colliders on some of the objects but I obviously missed a few. Thanks for the feedaback

That was fun! It was hard to time completing words with jumps at first but then i realised you could save typing the last letter until you got near a jump :) I liked the music and the whole style of the game in general was pretty rad :) Nice work! :D

Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI6TXc0bclc
