Bunker_Defense.exe - A Text Parser Tower Defense game!

https://nomadicelf.itch.io/bunkerdefense

3.png

You are in control of your bunkers defense hallways and use drones to build and upgrade turrets. All commands are entered via a text parser interface with a low res camera in each of the four hallways to see what's happening. You'll be continuously invaded by various mobs that scale in difficulty as time goes on.

Basic playthrough: (Most command words can be shortened to their first letter)

1) Select your first drone with 'drone 0'

2) Move it to the turret at the first station in the hallway 'go 1'

3) Upgrade the turret for more damage 'upgrade'

4) Once you've collected enough scrap, move to an empty location 'go 2'

5) Build a new turret 'build turret'

If your drone gets destroyed, you can build a new one with 'build drone' (or build some spares)

Type help in the game for more help and a list of all commands.

See if you can get past total collected scrap of 350! Post a comment and let us know your total collect scrap score once you die.

Submitted Version was build 9, build 10 created to fix opening alpha ramp on title screen.

Determined WebGL build was failing because of multiple cameras. Changed code to move a single camera to the 4 locations instead of switching between active cams.

Like the concept. Took my quite a while to realize there were multiple cameras. Got to 332 total scrap. Some sounds are a bit... idk.. not nice to listen to I guess. Great job!

* Game definitely made me feel like I was a real hacker defending a core from security guard/zombies while I stole billions in trade secrets / blackmail material
* keyboard sounds are great, not too obnoxious, definitely add to the mood
* I wish there was a way to know how much each turret would cost to upgrade just by looking at it. Some sort of status / monitor indicator would make it easier for me to avoid upgrading turrets that are already high level when I want to upgrade low-power ones first.
* the multiple cameras / multiple corridors idea is great, not too confusing (like if there were multiple angles of some area and I had to figure out which hallways went where) and not too boring (a single hallway). definitely adds a sense of "I need to constantly be monitoring everything" which adds to the l335 haxxor experience :D
* It was frustrating that once a hallway started to fall behind, there was nothing I could do - sending a drone out to upgrade / place more turrets just wasted materials since it was instantly destroyed :(
* There's a couple dimensions or strategies to explore that make theorycrafting interesting: should I build multiple drones to reduce travel time to get to a turret to upgrade? lots of weak turrets or a few strong ones?

I was not expecting it, but this is probably the most fun game I've played this jam. Nice work!

Super Awesome Game! The one-liners the computer says are great. The art is fantastic especially the dinosaurs. *"Ah! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"*. I love the sense of immersion I get from playing the game. I'm going to put on some headphones and turn out the lights for future plays to increase it. It would have been nice to be able to read all of the help outside of the game rather than doing it while my base was being attacked. This is my only gripe. Congrats on completing and submitting your game! Oh and green is where it's at!

I enjoyed everything up until I got an error... The computer kept telling me my comands made no sense and when I typed 'upgrade' I got a popup saying that there was an error. I'm using WebGL. The music is nice, I like the concept and story, the graphics are very retro, and the gameplay is decent although frustrating at times do to typing errors, an autocorrect or fuzzy search system would improve the game a whole lot, and I was'nt sure how to use or what half of them did, and a list on the side or something showing the commands would also be nice! Overall solid game!

I got a javascript error in the web build when I was trying to upgrade a turret early on, and the mac build seems to start with the help menu already activated, but won't accept any input. It looks really interesting and I love the audio, but I can't really rate based on what I can play of it.

@Sharks Having like a sticky note on the side of the monitor for some basic commands and maybe enemy info is one of the things we didn't think of until after submission time, but definitely would be something I'd like to see if we take another stab at this.

I love the look, feel, sounds, everything about this game! Very innovative and definitely fits the theme to a T. The computer interface and everything looks awesome! It's really well polished and has a ton of features for a game made in 72 hours! Good job on this awesome game :)

Nicely made. I like the user interface and how the command line is used. It took me a while to get the hang of it but the computer's remarks kept it really entertaining all the while. The auto naming of the drones is an awesome touch too.
