Flappy Jet by Henry Sneed
Press space to flap your wings! Arrow keys or A/D to move left and right. Hold space to keep your wings down. Pick up wrenches to power up your wings a bit! Pick up coins for score! Good luck ::))
Sounds done with bfxr, wolfram music generator, and some edits with logic pro. Used unity. Used aseprite. And I think that's about it...

I'd normally run five miles away from anything with "Flappy" in the name, but this is pretty good. I really liked the pixel art graphics and especially the music. Only a few other points to make:
-I found that the wrenches always spawned in extremely tight spots, which is obviously intended, but I could never get back out! I personally think that makes it a tad too hard.
-I also felt the hitboxes were a little fiddly, but maybe that's just me.
In all I think this is a solid entry. If you were to expand it, you could try adding different themes or different obstacles.
If i can fly higher with space, i think i can eat coin easier.
Overall it's a good game!
- The SFX are annoying and too loud. Especially the ones when you start.
- The hitboxes are waaaaay off. Flappy Bird works so well because the gameplay is very tight and you don't die because you hit an invisible wall.
- Some obstacles were too hard to get through because of the hitboxes.
- Couldn't tell if the hitbox of your character changed when holding down space. The sprite looks like you're getting smaller, but I'm still just dying to invisible walls.
This would be really great if you could just make the hitboxes a bit smaller. Developers usually make them smaller than the sprites themselves, to give the player a bit more leeway. That's definitely what this game needs. The graphics are pretty good and the music isn't too bad as well. It's just unfortunate that the gameplay isn't that tight. Otherwise I'd even recommend you to overhaul the graphics a bit and put it on the appstore. Because the idea is really cool.
The max score I got was 3, and I never managed to pick up any wrench.
I liked the twist on keeping your wings retracted, and I agree with danielilett that this is one of the very few "flappy" games I liked.
Overall it feels solid and well curated, even though I have to agree collision boxes have a "oversensitive" feeling, even though I cannot really point out any specific case where it was obviously wrong. Maybe you should have used square "bricks" instead of "diamonds" for walls if you are using square bounding boxes for the collisions.
>It's incredible hard, I only managed to get 4 coins and never reached a wrench.
>The obstacles look boring and are all the same. I would love if they were Zeppelins or something like that
>I encounter some bugs were when I crashed at the beginning of the game the game freezes
>The hitboxes seem to be a little weird
Things I liked:
>The music: It's annoying, but it exactly fits the game.
>The plane mechanic: It just feel responsive and nice.
Well done, I quite liked it even though these types of games are not my favorite. Nice.
I think there's a bug with dying, twice the game froze instead of going to the restart screen - including the first time I died, where I thought omg this game doesn't have a retry loop?!
Difficulty is pretty on point though, I died a bunch of times getting two or fewer coins, over and over, but getting a few more seems really achievable. I kept my eyes on the collisions and I think I lived a few with a verrry slight overlap so I think you did make those fair, despite what other commenters are saying. For the first couple of games I had a few "WHAT" moments where I hit something and was surprised, but after I got acclimated I didn't perceive cheap deaths which is important in this style of game.
In the end my record was four coins, but I never got a single wrench.
If I could add one feature, it would be what @alxm suggested: a bit of pizzazz around death.
Nice work!
