Present Panic by Roka Josh

[raw]
made by Roka Josh for LD 40 (JAM)

A christmas themed present sorting game, vaguely inspired by paper's please (I guess). This is our third entry into Ludum Dare, however sadly unlike last time, I was busy for a large portion of the Saturday and Sunday hindering the programming aspect. Use candy canes to punch the presents down the right chutes, matching colour wrapping paper. Be careful however, as some damaged presents have made it into the line and need to be voided. If you complete the 2 main rounds, then feel free to get as good a score as possible in endless mode, and post a picture of your score here or tweet us at @JaGTekGames. Enjoy!

Very nice art style. Subtly hectic at times. Good integration of theme into the game. A slight improvement could be in the game feel department of the UI. Have the title moving slightly, have the UI boxes pop in rather than just appear. It should add a bit more power to the UI.

Thank you for your feedback, the UI is definitely something we will improve once the competition is over.

This was a fun game. I liked the Christmas theme and I felt the visuals and sounds all fit in very well. The game play was fun and challenging. I found it funny when I'd try to knock a present into the red bucket, but I'd do it slightly too late and so it would bounce and land on the edge of the green bucket. Then, for every green present, I'd have to time it perfectly so I could knock the present in, without hitting the red present in as well. The game matched the theme of the jam well. I could not beat the regular mode though as I am too bad at the game.

Good entry!

Looks and sounds great. Shape based icons would help with colorblind related issues though.

This is a cool idea, however there are a couple of things I would change.

It would be nice if you could have a keyboard control for each of the different punchers, as otherwise if you have to press two at once it's really difficult.

Sometimes the presents get stuck in the holes without going down, which is a bug. You could turn off the physics for them as soon as they are far enough into the bucket and then just suck them in to fix that.

It would be cool if over time you ended up with more punchers to control.

Other than that, it's a really cool game :).

I really enjoyed the game. It was fun and had a nice idea and cute graphics. I liked how the presents tumbled over if oyu didn't hit them properly and how they could be picked up by the candy canes. I agree with the comment that buttons for the pushers would be a good idea, because I started wondering if it was possible since you had to sometimes hit two buttons at once. Neat game though. Nice job :)

Interesting idea, yeah, i agree to the keyboard input rather than mouse, it would make the game a bit more enjoyable.

And... no scores :(

Simple and rather enjoyable, however very loosely connected to the theme. ;)

Fun game and I like the visual style. Doesn't work in my Firefox for some reason, only in Chrome.

I liked the idea, had a fun time trying to catch the presents on the way back up with the hook too- I'm sure if you had more time to work on it you could iron out the kinks

It would be nice if the colors in the chutes at the bottom were a bit more vibrant to help with the first playthrough
