Beer Pong Arcade by banan

Beer Pong Arcade is an arcade game where you throw a ball into cups containing beer. If you manage to get the ball inside the cup, you must drink the beer. Of course, the inebriation induced by the alcohol may cause some involuntary head motions and make hitting the cups slightly more difficult.

Gameplay

You throw a ball and attempt to get it in one of the cups. The strength of the throw can be varied and the ball can be controlled after throwing it.

When the ball lands in a cup you drink it and get more drunk. This impacts your stability and hearing. The cup is removed from the table. When all the cups on the table have been removed, you get a new set of cups.

You get points for getting the ball inside the cups. How many points you get depends on what type of cup it is, and it multiplied by the amount of successful throws you have had in a row.

When you miss two times in a row you lose a heart. The first time it starts flickering and the second time it goes dark. You regain one heart when you make a successful throw.

The bar on the right shows the strength of your throw.

Clicking the coin slot on the left opens the menu or restarts the game after game over.

After throwing the ball the camera gives you a bird's-eye view of the ball so you can more easily see where it goes.

Took a while to get into it, but it's quite fun.

I really enjoyed all the aesthetics of it. The graphics and music work together well. I also liked the take on the theme. At first the camera tilt was so subtle, I didn't think it had much affect, but after a while, it was really messing with my shots!

The biggest negative, however, is the difficulty. At first the controls were tough, but I got used to them. Unfortunately, the unforgiving nature of bounces, the cups, and the power slider caused more frustration than I was willing to take after a ~5 minutes. Had fun up until that point though!

Interesting take on, and really a great match for this theme. Graphics are basic but nothing more substantial is necessary. As others said I found the controls difficult, and that ultimately made the frustration overpower the fun.

Feels like I'm actually getting drunk playing this game haha.

Interesting concept. The ball physics is pretty good, behaves like what you would expect from a pong ball. The graphics are nice and the music fits the theme, albeit a bit repetitive after a while.

I enjoyed it, just a simple game with nothing too complex. The music fits really well, same for the graphics. Only thing is I think the "wasd" might change the ball too much? as soon as I touched one of those key the ball just flew off the table :3 had fun playing it though!

The project is interesting, but I found some issues:

- When game is over you need to show more clearly to the player, because Game Over title is too small.

- The music is great but I miss some sounds, like the ball's bounce around the scene or the ball falling into beer.

- The implementation of the theme is very funny but so soft.

- Nice job on the difficulty curve, but reach a point at which it's pretty dificult and this can frustrate the player.

- The force bar need to be readjust. Only with the half of the bar you throw the ball until the end of the arcade.

- The Quit button is covered by the beer glass. Be careful about that on next projects.

- It would be cool to fix glitch of the overhead camera, but I didn't keep in mind.

Definetly, I think if you continue working on this project, might be good but on mobile platforms will be better. :D

Fairly enjoyable game, we both interpreted the theme in a similar way! I was not very good at this, but no complaints about the controls. I actually liked the music quite a bit, and I liked how the hearts on the machine looked. Some sounds effects would have added to the game a lot I think. Still had fun though!

I love how the camera tilt applies to the bird's eye view as well to emphasize just how drunk you are. I got to the one with a centre bowl and 4 cups on the sides, and it seemed like the hand just didn't go out far enough to reach the cups at all. Nice implementation of the theme, and it was a really fun game once I got the hang of it.

Love the use of the tilt to simulate getting drunk and love the use of a ball cam. My only real nitpick is that it could do with some sound effects.

I like the simplicity and fun of it, though even on the first level it takes some getting used to to enjoy. Maybe start with something even easier, and lead into the harder stages more gradually. Either way, good entry I like it :)

I like the theme of this game and when I saw it I just had to play. I spent a fair amount of time shooting and missing by a lot (just like real life games, I suppose). If your intention was to match a realistic game feel then the attention to physics details would be key (ball bounce, arc, reaction to hitting liquid in the cup, etc). Good job for a Compo though, you managed to include good gameplay, UI, theme, music and graphics which is no small feat!

This game was fun to try to get the balls in the cups however it was pretty difficult too. I have very bad reaction times to stuff when gaming and while reaction isn't something you really need in this game the ability to move the ball in the are some was impossible for me to control. I liked the game though!

Fun little game! Super simple and hits the theme pretty well. It's pretty difficult, but I think that's OK. Feels like a game I'd sneak a few sessions of in at work while I'm bored. Would actually make a decent mobile game too I think.

Neat.

Straightforward concept (if not a little on the nose for the theme) and good mechanical transference -- it felt pretty damn similar to how it is to throw a beer pong ball in real life. Oh and the music too has this meandering off-tempo quality that adds to a sort of "drunk" feel. It's pretty damn fun-- I let my daughter play it for literally 20 minutes which is twice her attention span for super Mario Odyssey. I got really tripped up on the three cup level because it felt like a big jump in skill up from those beer bowls on level 1 and 2. I did beat it eventually but I could not make it past level 5.

My main suggestions would be this:

- Maybe make the "drunkeness" more extreme with the screen wobble as time goes on and misses accumulate.
- Like in real beer pong if you get a cup you should get another throw no matter what. I had one scenario where I made it but I was still given a game over screen. Not sure if this was a bug or not.

Dial in the controls a bit (just a liiiiitle more give in the low power range) and this could be super addictive. Nice job!

Haha, It was harder than I expected.

Nice work with setting the mood. The arcade machine looked cool

Reminded me of one these Wario Ware games. Some "drunk" effects after a while of playing would be cool!

Well, the Linux-build works! ... but next time, could you please set the executable permissions to 755? I had to 'chmod' it by hand. (While I'm complaining anyway; if you zip things up, can it be within a folder? If I get a bunch of zips in my downloads I want to be able to unzip them there...)

Anyway! The game itself. I really think some soundFX for the pingpong-ball would help a lot with the immersion. The music is nice 'n jazzy, which makes you relaxed no matter how many times you miss  Other than that I don't really have a whole lot to add to what's already been said.

Fun game! The only thing I would say to the negative (like others have said) is the difficulty. I'd like to see a version with that more finely tuned.

Tough, but a lot of fun! I probably played this more times than I should have.
