The souls of the underworld have escaped, and now they're wandering across Hell's depths. As the Reaper, it's your job to bring them back where they belong. But beware, they won't go back down without a fight. They have strength in numbers, so tread carefully.

Soul Chase is a 2D side-scroller that's all about capturing souls. You have 4 minutes to catch as many souls as possible and escape uncharted Hell's wrath.

Aaaaah this was cool! I don't know how big the map is, but it felt huuuuuge... I died (ironically) the first time, but I was able to collect 30something souls afterward~
The idea of being possessed or immobilized for collecting more souls was cool! I'm unsure if there were other debuffs besides those two, but it was cool~
Really great job :D

I was looking for something eerie and your game has it. It is a little difficult to wander around because of the camera, but I loved the possesion effect. Something really dark is cooking with this game. Nice job!

Very enjoyable game! I loved the mood/atmosphere. The sound was very well done. The art fit the game well and it all came together nicely. I will admit to being a bit reckless at first until I met my demise to some spikes, haha. It was fun exploring the map! Cool concept too. Well done!

Simple and nicely done, although the mechanic got repetitive after a while. I didn't feel like the game wanted me to keep playing it, there was nothing to expect by completing the game.

The artwork was nice but I think a 16-bit or 8-bit style would fit the game better considering its simple mechanics. Overall nice and smooth but could have done better, good job.

@DienVenteD Really sad to hear that! What appears to be the problem? Unfortunately I don't have a computer that runs Mac so I have not playtested the Mac build :(

Awesome game and especially music. Just created soundcloud account to follow the author. And the idea to make player be possessed because of all souls gathered is great. If you want to see one more game about gloomy guy in a hoodie check [this one](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/all-by-yourself) out =)

The music and scary mood in the game is real good. The idea for the game is okay, but the level design and player movement needs some polishing. Overall a fine LD game. Well done.

You should make a reason for us to pick up souls. Otherwise good game. Good job

I love the possession mechanic, it is not used that often in games so when you find a game with it, it's actually really nice to see how it interacts.

Well done man, can't wait to see how you flesh this out!

First of all thanks for the Linux build. Why can't other Unity developers be like you? Makes me feel bad.

The best things in the game for me were the audio work and and creepy atmosphere, as for the menu with a lot of features. The controls were pretty intuitive. As for the game mechanics, I think the reaper is just too fast and hard to control, that was a bit of a nuisance.

I can tell you had fun making this game, which I'm glad for and I like that alot [:

but as for the quality of the game itself, it felt pretty low. the thing that bugged me the most was probably the platforming physics, it would have helped a **bunch** to have a variable jump arc, and also the camera was very close to the player so I never knew if I was about to jump into a spike pit or not. Anyway I hope you had a great LD Jam!

Love it, it was fun!
Really like that you can move in a menu - nice touch.
Would be nice to have some kind of warning where is safe to jump. A little bit too many leaps of faith.

The atmosphere of the game was really strong with the whispers and music going on, and really love the idea of the spirits fighting back and making things more crazy. The game made me panic at times when the spirits would start fighting and wanting to go jump off a ledge, so that interaction was real fun for me.

I do wish the game was a little zoomed out. Because of the camera being so close, it tend to jump side to side rapidly and trigger my motion sickness a little. I also felt the neon fluorescent lights were a little out of place considering it's a dark gloomy dungeon. Other than that, game was fun to play and love the idea.

My playthrough:

https://youtu.be/K5tjf2bWjDw

The audio was very haunting. And good job on the bot, I see that the souls tries to run away from you a little bit if you get close.

Maybe more souls would be nice, it gets boring when you're just walking around looking for souls and they're up there out of you reach. And I echo what technonugget said.

Really enjoyed the music and the art work was great! Surprised to see a door animation but no movement animation from the character. Also with such beautiful composition I was surprised there were no sound effects as well. The movement mechanics felt a little weird to me. The orbs also felt very RNG to me so it made the game inconsistent, but that's okay if that's what you intended. Good job!

Great game, congrats! I liked the randomness in the map. and how the souls mess with the player is very fun too, pretty unpredictable

Cool concept and atmosphere. But the way the debuff works is not clear for me as sometimes I'm possessed for several seconds but sometimes just a quarter of one second. Is it random? Suggest to make the soul collecting more exciting as now the most interesting point is the debuff things. The stair is really annoying. Overall it's cool.
