Car Defense by cavi

[raw]
made by cavi for LD 41 (COMPO)

Hello! I made a game about racing and tower defense.

The objective is to protect your base from the waves of incoming enemies. Upgrade the towers by reaching the goal, use the flamethrower to destroy groups of enemies or run them over with your car.

I made the game with Unity and Visual Studio.

Sound effects with bfxr, music with beepbox.co.

Models with MagicaVoxel.

fun! and really interesting combination. I like how i can pick from upgrading my towers or killing enemies, but it's not done through a menu. You either drive through the upgrade towers or flame throw the enemies!

The car controls felt a little... floating. Like it had too little mass or something. Otherwise, pretty nice game.

Interesting combination, I'm unable to beat it as is a little hard. I would have loved to be able to increase the flamethrower range.

Really neat idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQphYmNNYE4

Great game!! Realy enjoyed the quick race. I wasn't able to survive! (I needed more car speed!!!) On Web the HUD stayed outside the screen (I noticed that there is a timer and a green bar but couldn't see them). Would love to see it with more towers and more enemies!

Cool mix of genres. Interesting idea having a ground unit that is very mobile running around and trying to upgrade/help defend.

10 secons to complete this... personal goal, beat the game. Fun, was interesting mash up, i don't like this to genres... But, this was nice. I support the flamethrower idea.

Great game, got a bit repetitive after a minute or so, but fun in general! Nice idea!

Nice mashup of the two genres! It's fun to see people who chose the same genres but came up with a completely different game :)

Pretty fun little game, once I figured out the best strategy. Nice balance between having to upgrade towers by racing around the track and taking out the enemies with the flame thrower. If you focus on either aspect too long, then you will lose. The lego style graphics and car were cute. I wish the music melody was a little longer or didn't repeat so often.

Quite good game! Goes well with the theme. Music was too repetitive though. Car steering could be improved too.

This combination of genres is a great idea! However I miss the distincitve element of a TD game, which is deciding what tower to place where against what enemy. Here, you just go around in circles without making any real decisions. And the extremely short music loop gets quite annoying over the course of the game.

Good combination and pretty good balance and progression. If there's one thing I'd add, it'd be more levels. The music also got a bit repetitive, and the car was a bit difficult to steer, but overall good job!

I liked the balance you forced the players to think about, it's a pretty neat way of implementing the genre combination.
