made by ectucker1 for LD 41 (JAM)

Submerge is an underwater roguelike-card arcade shooter.

Face the monsters of your deck, including four different enemies and two boss fights. Find new allies in the yellow upgrade cards.

Beware! All cards become more powerful as you move deeper.

Use WASD to move. Point and click to shoot and select cards.

Note: There's a bug where sound effects (but not music) may not play. If this happens, refresh the page and click a bunch before pressing start.

Post your highscores in the comments.

Ha! loved the graphics and the overall aesthetic of the game, the card designs were beautiful :] in terms of improvement a sort of healthbar thing/effect could be added to the enemies (like a bar or a hue shift). Fun game!

Very simple but with good feeling! The submarine reminds me the Ulysses of Atlantis, I like it! Keep working like that!

I really liked the art, the music and the idea, but it was too easy. Circle strafing beats everything that comes straight at you, especially because you can leave the screen and use the enemy directions to tell where you are. And the bosses are even easier. Cthulu boss's design/moveset was pretty interesting, but he was way too easy because you spend most of your time sitting still wailing on him.

It's a bit easy. However I liked the art on the cards, but it needs more variation on the cards(even if it's just level). Art on the submarine is good as well. It was a breeze to play. Most thing I liked about the game is the music as it was very coherent with the mood.

Very well mde game. The card shooter combination hits the topic (we done a shooter/puzzler). I am amazed about the number of different enemies. Great work!

My highscore was 17960. Really nice art style and atmospheric music. Some of the animations were cut short, like cthulus tentacles. Also i wished there was more impact upon hitting the enemy, particles or flash, or anything. While fighting megadolon it made me wonder if I was even hitting him. I too found some of the bosses (mainly cthulu) really easy and regular enemies more challenging. I don’t think I understood what the allies did. I did not notice any change in gameplay?

My high score is 12350 ! I stopped playing just because the overall mechanics (strength, health and amount of monsters / allies improvements / choice of cards, etc.) are still a little bit unclear. But I really enjoyed the mix of card game and arcane shooter. Very good graphics design !

Lots to like about this game! The artwork is excellent and I really enjoyed the music. I like the theme and it was well executed. I got just over 32k (my memory is like that of a fish in the game :P). I found the powerups a bit too plentiful and make the player OP (I was launching an insane amount of torpedoes haha) although I tend to associate rogue-like with overly difficult. Great submission!

Very nice atmospheric game! Graphics is very good. But it turned out that I'm very bad at it... get 1600 points( I wish the camera follow the submarine

I really liked the game! The idea was great and so was the execution! The sounds & music gave very nice atmosphere to the experience, and the art style is spot on! Few improvement ideas might be to add some sort of "health indicator" for enemies, and maybe introduce a "hull upgrade" card. All in all very good entry!

Liked the art and music, particularly the GUI and card designs, really nice. I got a few too many powerups which made things a bit easy, but that card mechanic for picking the next challenge is really interesting.

Well done, thanks for sharing!

89960, I don't usually play a game so long so this speaks for itself.
The game has amazing graphics, very catchy music, and good concept.
The idea is great, not super innovative tough, but the execution is flawless, everything in the game, from the controls to the difficulty, is perfect.
Great work.

Haha, knowing that you can move made it a lot easier. First I tried it without and that was definitley more difficult. Nice game overall. Nice atmosphere, nice sounds, pretty easy bosses as some already mentioned. The amount of enemies on the screen does a huge difference for the difficulty.

I like this! The concept was interesting, you made a game using cards (which I've seen many of the other games use for the theme) but you did it in a unique way of having the cards choose the enemies. I thought it was a good idea! It was fun!

This game was fun, and I liked the art. I wished the feedback for getting hurt was more clear though, at first I didn't realize I was being hit! The music and atmosphere were nice, wish some polish this could be a nice little game.

I'm liking the cleanness of the artwork! I think the game could be further improved by adding more variation to the cards and having different backgrounds to fit each enemy would be a nice touch. As @Tiberon and @Tuomo have said previously, having enemy health bars and visual feedback upon hitting them would be great. All in all I had fun playing it! Congrats!

Nice game!
As a roguelike fan I don't see that element here. But as a card / shooter game is great!
I liked how the game lets you select the next move and form a strategy from there.
Good work!

Definitely the best aqua[duck](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/motherducker) game we've played yet! Really beautiful art style, the logo you guys had up for the game listing was crisp and clean. The cards and creature looked great too but could maybe use some more variation. The music was fun and fit the game well. The card aspect offered a new twist but it felt like its implementation was incomplete. Overall awesome game!

Moreover the Cards and the Space Invader mix, I really liked the Nautilus theme. It's a bit difficult after some rounds, although I defeated the big shark and Chulthu!! Good job!
