The Curse of Power by sbeif

[raw]
made by sbeif for LD 40 (JAM)

You have gained too much power during your adventures.

Your strength is out of your control.

Can you succeed in your quest for weakness to be finally able to go back to your loved one?

screen4.png

In The Curse of Power you play the role of a great hero that returns home after his last adventure...but there's a problem: you are too strong and you're unable to touch your soulmate without hurting her.

And thus begins your new quest (and hopefully the last)! You have to get rid of your power by giving it to others.

screen3.png

Punch your way through a city filled with criminals, protect the civilians and heal those who fall. You can choose to heal criminals too, but they'll come back using your strength against you.

Your final goal is to get rid of all your power while protecting the civilians.

If you can't reach your goal, don't worry, there are 4 possible endings, according to your performance.

Try to reach the happy ending, and please feel free to share your results in the comments.

it's easy to reach the end of the game but not that easy to attain the happy ending. You should try it! :)

You can hit all the ennemies at once if they are superimposed which makes the game pretty easy. It was a good idea to include multiple endings to counteract that and add replay value. Art is effective but not very appealing.

Loved the options screen. Liked the gameplay, but gets repetitive after some time. The graphics are nice, kinda fit the game atmosphere.

Simple but efficient gameplay. The fact that there are multiple endings is great for a jam !

I didn't use enough power, curse me for saving too much power! It was nice addition that there was story elements in the game.
Also during the stage three I finally realized that the main character has mouth and arm instead of one big wide grin :D

Game is unique among other games I've played in the jam. I like the idea of keeping alive the civilians, and the multiple endings is a nice touch.
Art work could use refining, and some of the animations, but you're not rated on that so not a massive problem.

@rixium thank you for the feedback. I'm really glad you enjoy it :) About the graphics, we are 3 programmers and we've never done art or animation before, this was our first attempt but we ended up with a nice result :)

Cute art and nice music :). Creative use of the theme, don't think I've ever played a game before where you have to lose your powers :P.

I liked that there were multiple endings. I got number 4 too many times, but it was rewarding when I finally got ending number 2. I assume you need to lose all power to get ending 1? You have a good gameplay base for an interesting single player campaign.

Hey it is pleasant to play and rewarding to finally get the good ending. If only the heling spell was more intuitive to use, maybe by showing the area of effect.
