Mineirinho by rmc

[raw]
made by rmc for LD 40 (JAM)

Inspired by Animal Crossing of Nintendo Land, we ended up with a playable prototype of our initial idea.

The game itself is simple, you have to pick up gold and silver on the big Ores, each nugget that you get you are slowed down .

Then you have to drop the nuggets on the mine carts specific for gold or silver to score points. You have to be careful when you are slow to avoid the traps and to not lure the enemies.

WASD or arrow keys to move the character. Mouse click when close to the ores to pick. Mouse click when you are close to the mine cart to unload the cargo. You pick one per click, and drop one per click too.

Nice feel and atmosphere. Although I had a problem with the camera, maybe I missed something? I was only able to look one way, which made it hard to get to some places. Also some info about controls would have been useful. (WASD + click with mouse to take/give gold/silver? OR are there more buttons?)

Nice prototype! My first playthrough, I grabbed so many silver nuggets that I couldn't then move at all, and had to refresh the page to restart. If there was a way to dump some or all of what you've picked up, you could get out of tight spots at the cost of some of your load, and it would prevent getting stuck altogether! Maybe that feature's already there, but I couldn't find it.

Once I went back in and was more careful about getting greedy, I had fun!

Thanks @rolle, about the camera, yeah, we noticed that the camera wasn't the best only when we finished the level, about 15 minutes to end the jam, same about the lack of information on the controls which we only noticed after showing the game for a friend. :)

@sfbtom the drop feature will be a nice addition, thanks for your suggestion.

Nice entry! The character is a little hard to control at first, but after a while you get used to it. I couldn't get past the obstacles when carrying a lot of gold, so I wish there was a way to drop some of the minerals.
Good job!

I like the design of the character and the concept of the game. It would be cool if you could dynamically move the camera and I got far to greedy and grabbed as much gold as I could and had no way to throw it so that I could still move.

The concept is fun, however the movement are quite hard to manage. Maybe you should have put a maximum to how much you can take. Anyway, good job!

The controls are a little awkward, and it wasn't clear what was an enemy, objective, etc. I like the character design though and it seems like a solid start!

Nice graphics and gameplay! :D i believe that with a little more polish this game could became great ! By the way i suggest to implement some visual indication of your speed or the weight. ;) A good job and a Pizza maluca!

I liked the game and the amount of content was impressive! Only have a few complaints with the camera not being able to be rotated which made the game very hard! And the slope spike ball thingies i didn't really get the point of. Maybe i missed something but there are the same ore patches on top as on the ground so why would you go there. Except for that, really cool game. (-;

@ahintoflime and @taldius thanks for your input. I agree that the controls are very rough and missing general indications.

@roberto-romao thanks for your suggestion, it's really missing a speed indicator.

@awerar we didn't had the time to finish our mechanics, so the ore patches on the slope ended up redundant. The initial idea was to have some sort of a cooldown, and you would had to pick the ores on the hill, but we couldn't figure out a good way to do it in time. In the end we liked the concept of the slopes, so we put it there just for the kicks.

I like the art of the characters. They look very nice. However I found the base speed too be too fast to maneuver anywhere.

Great take on the theme. Some things I didn't even notice at faster speeds (darts) almost got me when I was loaded down. Game objective was clear.

The camera was problematic and movement could be refined but I was still able to succeed and enjoy myself while doing so. Well done.

I really wished there was some indication with a UI element on how slow I'm going to move with x amount of ore.
On my first try I just spammed till I had 100 ore and my character stood still with me thinking it was broken and reloading the webpage :P

The movement are a bit high paced, I know I'm a floating robot, but I think it is a bit too fast for me to understand and take decisions. Besides the main goal of the game is uncertain until you understand what to do. E partiu Braziú!
