The first thing you could consider doing is letting the player know what the red squares are, and what is the number on the top left corner, counting down. I could not figure out if I was collecting the squares or if they were damaging me at first. The sprite work is nice on the main character. Sadly there's currently no game I can play. maybe work on how inputs work and the timing of animations. Like have an idle sprite (character standing still) that gets set when no buttons are being pressed.
