FeedEm by CG_Fred

made by CG_Fred for LD 40 (JAM)

Being a father is hard work, trust me I know.

This is a very basic life simulator, find the food that your children wants or they die!

Use arrow buttons or joypad.

PS. You can only carry one food item at a time. If you pickup another item the first one will be lost, so don't waste food you'll need it later.

FeedEm was created in 16 hours.

Would love to get constructive feedback how to make the game even better :)

Ok. That seriously weirded me out :-) "We want food". Congrats on the game! Personally I couldn't find my own head if it wasn't screwed on, so I would've liked some type of compass or other directional tool.

Awesome job! I like the sound effects :) Here are some things I think you could improve for next time:
- I thought the game loop was a little slow. There was a lot of walking involved which got pretty boring, but it could be better if maybe you increased the walking speed, and made your children get hungry faster to balance it out.
- Since the player can only carry one food item at a time, the UI element showing what food you're holding could be bigger on-screen or more apparent. As it is, it's off to the side, which made it had to find at first.
Other than that though, I thought it was great! I liked the challenge of finding food among the flowers & trees.

This was pretty fun. I like the pacing, but I wish there was more structure to where the food was. Way too much yellow food outside.

Nice! you can improve the game making the walking a little faster, I found that if you walk on diagonal direction the player move a faster, and use it to speed up my runs searching food, but I don't think it was on purpouse. Anyways, you have a great start here, and you can add a lot of things, the base works fine.

Got to 4 children so I'm happy. Didn't rate the music because I can't listen right now. I'm just glad I could find enough chicken legs in the wild.

Haha, this is why I'm delaying having kids - Their food requirements are too high!
Enjoyed the concept and I thought the sound effects the incompetech sound track worked really well.
The gameplay for me became pretty repetitive. Perhaps you could invest time to get upgrades, like a shopping cart or something? Or an assistant? Or grow the food close?

Nice game. As others have mentioned it was a bit hard to pinpoint the food and running would get boring sometimes. I think both of these things might be solved by introducing some superpowers like radar or superspeed. On the good side environment looks nice and core mechanic is very strong. Good job.

Nice job! I agree with most of the others, the game loop is a little short and boring, but there's a lot of good potential here!

The 'I found food' line got fairly annoying after a while, but the steps sound effect was glorious. I wish I could rate you on audio just based on that.
The colliders seem a bit dodgy as I was stopped by trees a few times.
