I really loved the concept of copies of yourself spawning when you die, I think it made for a more intense game :) Good job!

Congratulations on completing your first GameJam!! The idea is interesting and Chaparrito looks really cool.

Really liked how the theme was incorporated into the game, managing multiple characters was rather difficult. It's a very slow game which makes decisions like where to move feel important however I didn't really get a sense of urgency. I feel that it would have been more engaging if the enemy changed stages (how it starts to shoot 4 ways) earlier and if there were more stages to make it more difficult and make losing lives more meaningful. Alas it was still a really good use of the theme, congrats!

When we did the game we observed that the idea was fun but that the execution could be better polished. The time played against us and we couldn't test the game and check this things. We'd like to finish it, so we'll take your comment into account. Thanks so much for play and for help us ! :D @zac-mcdonald

Ok so a little bit of criticism here but first the positives. Graphics, the game looked great and the effects were all really well done especially for the time limit. Also it's a really cool idea, I loved the splitting up on death and the barriers so it's not just a bullet hell - dodgem game. There was also good visual feedback on what happened, pauses and shakes really let me know exactly what was going on.

However.

I liked the graphics, but there wasn't much for me to like. Content was limited (but yeah I get it, time frame again, can only do so much). I also felt that the game was far too easy. I finished multiple times without getting hit and I was looking at the controls like "What do you mean switch character?". I only ever got hit trying to figure out how to switch character. And once I did it was easier, the 4th character with the rapid-fire just melted the boss. I found it easier to get hit and just stand in 1 place not moving.

It's got potential but keep looking for feedback friends! Also, audio. I understand not having audio but if you keep working on this, it would make such a difference. This is the type of game that needs audio in the future, especially for bullets and background music.

Totally agree. We had to make the game so easy because of a bug in the covers. They stop reseting when detect multile collisions during the state change. So weird. We hope to fix that and let the hell happens. Thanks @alex-bryant for the feedback!

@Johnsey could that simply be because theres so long a state-change period where the it's counting hits but then not changing state because it's mid-change? If so shorten the change it's probably getting an out of range index or something.

Pretty solid top-down-shooter. Gameplay felt pretty smooth. We done also a top-down-shooter but with not so nice graphics.

@alex-bryant I'll check that. Also, I'm not sure about the functionality of some animation events. Time pressure made me write very dirty code. Thanks again!!

The graphics are very well done and the game is really fun. I'm not very good at in the "shooting game" area, but I did xD
I see a lot of potential in your game! :3

This games wants sounds. More levels are needed (Or make the first one harder) but it is a neat idea :D

I almost missed the idea though since I beat the boss without taking damage, its way cooler to get hit a couple of times and then attack the boss from all sides :D

I was very sad that there weren't more bosses to fight because it ended way too quickly for me! Nice little game.

The game is kool. Wish there was sound to it, because the graphics are really nice.
The theme take is interesting, however to make it more playable there should be a bigger level, and the boss should have more health / stages / be harder. The health bar should also clamp to 0 so the bar doesn't go below it.

I've left you a fair rating, make sure you check-out mine @ https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/do-ki
Peace.

Really liked the experience, it's not super original, but very well done and fun to play, with a fait amount of polish. I like the graphics, everything looks dynamic. I would have enjoy some audio on it. Congrats for your entry ;)

Top notch visuals, and the core gameplay that's there feels strong, if a little on the short and easy side. That said, I did feel the lack of audio feedback - might be worth checking out a tool like BFXR in the future to generate some quick sounds for your games.

I really like the graphics. The game mechanic is pretty interesting but with just one level you can appreciate it that much. also, no music and sound effects for a shooter is a big missing, IMHO. Anyway, really good job!! :)

Good aesthetics and a challenging main mechanic! I believe that a strong soundtrack in a future version will help a lot in the feeling. Congratulations on the project.

Boa estética e uma mecânica principal desafiante! Acredito que uma trilha sonora forte numa versão futura ajudará muito no feeling. Parabéns pelo projeto. :flag_br:

This is pretty sweet! Lovely graphics. Presentation is very polished. Pity with no sound. The splitting mechanic is smart. I liked it. Somewhat easy possibly. Almost didn't get to use the main mechanic before beating the boss.

The concept is cool, the game is too short and easy to fully appreciate it tho

Pretty cool game! I like the idea and graphics but it seems that something is missing. I mean, I beat the guy and then the game restarts without indicating victory or something like that and a few SFX would have been great

Also the health bar of the boss keeps decreasing after 0 :P

I don't want to sound all negative, I liked the game and think is fun, congrats on the entry!

It's a bit clunky and super short, but the art style and idea of this game is fantastic! Definitely should consider adding more to this.

@rombus With the time limit we had we could not add sounds and we are aware that the game is easy but we will continue working.
