The ultimate trading quest!

Get the game on itch.io | Patreon | Website | Twitter | Facebook | Tumblr
Gameplay:
The Goal:
Your goal is to keep trading items around until you get enough Yarn or Tennis Balls required to trade for the chocolate that you need.
New trading items are gradually introduced to the trading cycle, so it may take a while before any Yarn or Tennis Balls appear.
Instructions:
To complete a trade, simply pick up items from your bag and drop them in the trader's paw. Items that you drop on the ground or that you give the trader will return to you if the trade is not completed successfully. If at any point you wish to pick up dropped items, simply press the "Sweep" button. You can also shuffle the items around in your bag by pressing the Shuffle button.
A timer activates when you are in a trade that gives you sixty seconds to complete the active trade. If you leave the trade, the timer will pause, but will continue once you return to the trade.
If you fail to complete a trade on time, the trader will lose their patience and will request a different set of items. If you fail a second time, they will require 2 minutes to cool off before requesting again. If a trade is successful, you will be rewarded with new items and this specific trader will take a little time before requesting a new trade.
Nintendo 64?
Yes! We purposely styled the game to look like an early N64 game! With camera controls similar to what you'd expect from the N64's "c" buttons.
How did we integrate the theme?
The more items you have in your bag, the more hectic it is to find the items that you need to trade within the time limit. And the more items are added to the trading cycle, the less time you have to complete trades.
Play with any controller or keyboard+mouse!
Controls:
Keyboard + Mouse:
- WASD or Arrow Keys to move
- [ and ] or LMB and RMB to rotate the camera (while exploring)
- Space to interact (while exploring)
- E to open and close your bag
- Mouse to control the hand (while trading)
- Space to sweep (while trading)
- LMB to pickup and drop (while trading) [+ Hold down LMB to leave hand down in the bag]
- RMB to shuffle (while trading)
- Q to quit the game (while viewing your bag)
Controllers
- Left Analog Stick to move
- Shoulder Buttons or L1/R1 or Left/Right D-Pad to rotate the camera (while exploring)
- A (Xbox) or Cross (Dualshock 4) to interact (while exploring)
- B (Xbox) or Circle (Dualoshock 4) or Start/Options/Pause/Menu to open and close your bag
- Left Analog Stick to control the hand (while trading)
- Y (Xbox) or Triangle (Dualshock 4) to sweep (while trading)
- A (Xbox) or Cross (Dualshock 4) to pickup and drop (while trading) [+ Hold down button to leave hand down in the bag]
- X (Xbox) or Square (Dualshock 4) to shuffle (while trading)
- Q to quit the game (while viewing your bag) [Keyboard Only]
Tips:
- Hold down the pickup button or key to keep your hand down in the bag and move it to shuffle stuff around.
- Check your bag before entering trades to verify if you have the items they want. When doing so, you can pick up any item and the game will tell you how many of that item you have in your bag.
- There is always at least one trade that definitely asks for something you already have in your bag.
Missing features:
- Intro cutscene
- Proper main menu
Known issues:
- Weird glitches with the dirt road in some areas.
- Items clip out of your bag when shuffling sometimes.

I do however love the art style you've chosen, and I feel that it suits your game very well.
I think what this game could really use is some form of bargaining system to make trades a little less linear. I also think that the trading system in this game would have worked very well for telling a story or exploring the lives of the villagers, which would have added a lot more depth.
"Seven apples for one apple? You have a deal my friend!"
For me the only major issue was that the trading felt so random. I think there are many interesting mechanics on trading that could be implemented with relative ease. Great work still! :tada:
Overall pretty good entry, the lack of sound made me feel less engaged with the mood but the theme is there, the controlers were kinda hard to get used to but in the end they were ok. Congratulations!

If your goal was to be so very nostalgic and 64-ish with the style, well, congratulations. It looks great. Heck, better than great. It's more akin to a Playstation if you ask me. But let's not go that way.
The game itself is a lengthy chain of sidequests, which is charming at first (and terrific for a gamejam, if I have to say that), but it does get a bit dull after a while. Still, the amount of polish that it has, like being able to move the camera, makes it very enjoyable. And yes, having more fruits and vegetables make the game harder, but only marginally. Being able to shuffle the bag was a great quality of life detail. Very welcome!
I had a good time crossing paths with these animals. One heck of a romp. In behalf of my team, we'd like to see more of this. Maybe an expansion of sorts in the future with some extra mechanics? I dunno. Surprise us! :whale:
I liked the mechanics, it shows a lot of promise.
Concerning the graphics you did a great job, I love how you textured the 3d models. I’m impressed!
Concerning the audio, it was kind of empty. Some short music loop och some simple sound effect would do!
Overall I like this game so much. I had an amazing time playing it. I liked the trading mechanics! Fun fact, I spent a while trying to trade apple with leaves to a guy who did not want that. Then I realized what I was doing, kind of awkward. Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

Love the animation and the graphics! I thought the camera controls were a little awkward though. Perhaps the game should just allow the camera to rotate around the character by moving the mouse?
Great work!
Great use of the theme, and well polished game! I like the way you move the camera, and the graphics, it suits well what you were aiming for!
The only "downside" is that it takes a bit long to get to the end, I think having a bit less a veggies/fruits would help :) And congrats for handling the exchanges so you don't get stuck and can't exchange anymore! Good luck for Reynald's Expedition! :)
Unfortunately I accidentally closed the game while trading after 20 minutes or so. But it was great fun until that point, although it really started feeling samey since there were no more new items introduced and I had no idea how much trading I still had to do to get the yarn.
Seeing what you will get in return from each trader would be really helpful, so you could start building trading chains in your head.
The shuffling around in your bag was not really all that helpful, I basically resorted to the auto-shuffle all the time since it was too hard to reach anything specific.
This is a very innovative concept and I would love seeing this one extended into a full game with some better feeling of progression :)
Good work, I didn't except it to be so fun!
Great concept and awesomely executed.

Ps. Sell this idea to Nintendo for their next Animal Crossing title.
Nice game!

However there are new problems with this version (Windows version) :
- It is no more possible to quit the game by pressing Q in the pause screen, I have to do Alt+F4
- I can't grab pots of jam - quite ironic for a game *jam* :stuck_out_tongue: - either on the pause screen or the trade screen, the paw kinda freezes up if I hover one. On the pause screen I have to un-pause, and in a trade I could not find any way but to wait until the end of the trade. Seems to be a problem with the 3D view in the corner - the pot of jam doesn't show up.
We've fixed the issues and, hopefully, they shouldn't occur anymore :)
