Bomb Robot by BoxedMeatRevolution

[raw]
made by BoxedMeatRevolution for LD 40 (JAM)

Before the war, the world was beautiful.
After the war, everything changed.
But not you.
You were never beautiful.

You're a bomb disposal robot.

All that's left is you
      the bombs on your head
and the rooms in which to dispose them.

Controls: * Move with Arrow Keys * Pause time with 'X' * Drop a bomb with 'Z'

Hints about gameplay: * Hide from bombs or crush them with blocks to avoid dying. * The green bomb will kill you no matter where you are hiding! You must destroy it by crushing it with a block. * If you're stuck on a level, just skip it (with B and N). Some of them are really hard!

It has some interesting mechanics. The first couple of levels are really faced pace, basically just drop the bomb and run, but pretty good overall.

Really fun puzzle game, but I have no idea how to deal with the 'neutrino' bomb as others have run into. It's not obvious and there isn't any instruction on what to do.

I had fun trying to figure out the puzzles. Thanks for letting me skip ahead. I also got stuck on the level with the green bomb.

Interesting concept, I would prefer if you were given more time to move around. Sometimes you'd get stuck around a corner and you're just screwed over. It was a bit hard to figure out which bomb was gonna be dropped first, a better visual aid to show that would be nice.

I thought I was dropping the bomb on the top the first time around. More visual feedback to make the game feel more stronger would be nice, like some screenshake would be nice.

More animations would be great as well. I couldn't get past the 3rd level unfortunately, it was a bit frustrating since I'd just explode before I could try anything.

The bomb's number is a bit tiny as well, which also adds to the frustration of trying to discern what's written on it. Good job and good luck with your future stuffs

Unique game with a neat mechanic. A little difficult to learn but rewarding. I also got stuck on the 'neutrino' bomb, lol. I had a nice time with this one though. How many levels are there?

There are around 12 levels. Note about the "neutrino" bomb: it will kill you no matter where it goes off. It needs to be destroyed (by crushing it against a wall) to prevent it from exploding.

Interesting mechanics. Very original.
Needs work with the UX, but keep it up!

I found this concept really innovative and clever. However, the game was quite difficult for various reasons.

The first (somewhat minor) obstacle was to actually learn how to play the game, which was not aided by the help screen having renamed actions e.g. restart = flux capacitor, and in which order the bombs were placed.

The second, was the poor communication of mechanics. I can see how people got stuck on the first neutrino bomb level, as it seems several concepts were introduced at once, that is, [SPOILERS: the sequencing of bomb explosions to carry out a series of actions in order, the idea of crushing the neutrino bomb, and the idea of pushing bombs in other positions to explode].

Finally, even once understanding these concepts, it was still difficult to plan a solution ahead of time, since after every explosion blocks and bombs change places, thus changing the safe areas every time.

Overall, while I can definitely see that each puzzle has a very carefully thought out intended solution, it was extremely difficult for players to actually plan ahead to find it, due to ever-changing nature of the game.

(And for the record, I got stuck on the second neutrino bomb level)

Tough, but fun! I had a good time, despite my many failures.

I was destroyed by the difficulty, but really liked the core mechanic. I think if levels progressed with a very slow, gradual learning curve then the game would be better for it. It felt like it was too many concepts too soon at times.
Regardless, interesting game, cool explosive effects, and I had fun playing it.

Hey guys, I love puzzle games, I really do. I enjoyed this one quite a lot. I especially enjoy how well done the graphics are. It's nice to see a game made in GM for once. That editor was my first love before I moved on. I honestly don't really have any complaints about the game. Kudos guys, you killed this LD! +1

Oh wow! What a fantastic idea for a puzzle game. This is absolutely fantastic! The sound effects, visuals, and theming were all done really well! You must continue working on this after the jam, I'd love to see this turned into something bigger.

This game managed to give me multiple panic attacks. Bomb disposal is not for the faint of heart!
Love the robot and his nervous little animations. A little bit of music would have been nice, but overall, a really great game!

Fun game but you pull no punches. It seems like I didn't have enough time to move to where I wanted to be by the time the bombs started exploding on his head

Fun concept, I like the art and sounds but the controls are a bit awkward. Not sure if the game is tough or if i'm just bad but I couldn't make it past the level with the big bomb :(.
Great game though !!

This is a very fun simple puzzle game. This has got to be the game that i have spent the most time on trying to figure out puzzles and completing them. I just loved the satisfaction when i survived every level. This game is well polished feels very nice, the sound effects are well designed and the controls feel great. The learning curve of the game is superb, i learnt all the mechanics slowly an was able to learn at a steady and calm pace. Just a little hiccup (not to worry about) was that you seemed to sometimes get stuck moving across the edge/corners of blocks. All in all, this is a great game and is a huge achievement. Congratulations!
