Notes

In the downloaded zip, extract the files and run the .exe to play! - Was this made to win? No. - Did this become a good game? Not really. - Did we have fun? Hell yeah. - Did we learn more about game development? A lot more.

So yeah, not a game made to win the jam, but more so to be in it and have participated. This was our first LD and I think we did alright for it, and I wonder how many others actually used MonoGame to create a game  (aka. let's not be so unorthodox and use something like Unity next time!) Either way, I hope some of you get some enjoyment out of this, even if it was mostly for learning more about gamedeving, and having fun, and not being the most complete thing, but it could be worse! There ARE many bugs, and more needs to be implemented, but I think it has some amusement value to it as it is right now, as a prototype.

Fun challenge!

Since the balancing is waaay out of whack with this one, how few towers can you beat the game with? I managed to get it down to 5, so let me know if you manage fewer in the comments!

cool concept and graphics, but could have used mre than two cards and shooting animations maybe

Funny animations, loved the detail in the grass. The game is a bit easy to play, because of the high Mana income and the strong and cheap towers. A higher Price for new cards might be helpful.

I like these kind of games so it's cool. Music could be louder and a little more of an epic vibe, but it's good. The style is okay too, but could use a little improvements. Try to add more cards. And a little bit harder. I played for 5-6 minutes and i got a lot of mana, like 240 and it crashed so yeah hahha. But it's a good game, but with improvements it can be an excellent and enjoyable game.

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone! Really appreciate it.
> @nehvis could have used mre than two cards and shooting animations maybe

Yes, this is true. Our intentions were to have many cards and towers, and have the towers attack the enemies with some sort of particle system. However, halfway through the jam we found out that developing for LD on a framework with no engine wasn't the best idea, so we never really got to develop the game far, as 75% of our time was used on creating the engine.

So very true. We never got around to doing balancing in the end, because of the aforementioned. Would be a lot better with it, though. We also had an idea for the card price to go up as you got more of them, kind of holding your mana in check.

All of these are excellent points, and I feel we could have gotten a lot more out of this, but we haven't given up on this game yet, we might continue developing it after LD / porting it to another engine etc.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Too bad you haven't had the time to really exploit the card mechanic. It had some potential. But with only 2 cards they are not very useful apart from just a simple build limitation.

Cool idea, but could use with some balancing. I positioned a bunch of towers around the start and haven't seen an enemy in minutes ;)

Great concept. The towers and enemies overlap each other, but apart from that no problems. If developed further it could be a great game!

Great approach to the theme! I could see this idea being quite expandable with a deck-building element :)

Some animations would be nice. And i lacked some kind of strategy in the game. Maybe more card doing different stuff? Music is nice though

that's a pretty fun idea, and the card draw mechanic is interesting, but it probably needed a little more of the card game mechanics to make it stand out from a pure tower defense game

Game was a little easy I felt like, but those are the struggles of a game jam. No time to polish or adjust any gameplay. With some minor adjustments you can have a really great game. Nice entry! I loved the detail in the grass. idk why  Please checkout my submission as well! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/keyboard-warrior

Cool use of the theme!

What Worked:
Theme, Core Game loop was neat, fun overall.

What Needs some polish:
Placing a card felt weird, not sure why but having a way to move them once placed would be nice.
More card types to keep things interesting
End Game state. Felt like I just got to a wave that never ended so some UI that let me knows wave x out of y.

Really neat game tho! Would def be cool to see y'all polish it up some :)

I really love that type of graphics. In my opinion you've combined 2 incombatible pretty well :). Thank you I've enjoyed playing it.

Cool concept! I think the tower defence and card genre is blending really well! Would love to have seen what this game could have become with a bit more time and work.

I would have liked a little more depth (especially in terms of enemies and cards) and the game gets very easy. However, the game has a nice idea and if you continued working on it you could probably make a very interesting game.

The game looks really good considering you didn't use a engine (by the way, I really think it's cool when people don't use engines, but it really makes it much easier to make a game in 48 hours (by the way my game is created in pure html5 canvas using dart without any frameworks even :D)).

I loved the artstyle and the music. The gameplay is not very deep but it doesn't matter too much, this is LD! Good job!

Good base concept but since there's only two types of cards, it defeat the purpose.
