I loved the art! I have played a lot of puzzle/rpg games, but I agree that they are pretty incompatible. I focused more on the puzzle part and ignored the fight part, and it seemed to work since I won. The moss was more annoying that hindering. I had a little trouble sometimes when I would lay down the blocks and an unexpected match would go off first instead of the one I planned.

Overall, great game!

Now this is beautiful implementation of the theme. Beautiful art and an incredibly solid implementation too.

It took me a while to beat the game, but man, what a result for a first game jam. Seriously, congratulations! I had a blast playing it :smile:

Good job with the game. You were able to merge the two genres together pretty well, the art was nice looking, and it was fun to play. I really enjoyed the "special" boss move at the end, it was a nice touch.

Thank you guys!

@recursiveanomaly Thanks! I originally planned it was an animated sprite(it will change position each drops),so you can get more information during the late game. But I have no time to implement it.

@miltonnh25 this idea comes from the "Taiko no Tatsujin", the boss will use skills to block your screen. It is really fun to use it, not just some attacks with high damage. And also connect two parts of games.

Great work man!

I beat both bosses and I really want to see more of this! Only thing i found out of the games that i played is that If i died it would be to blocks stacking too high and never the combat itself. Maybe block overstacks could translate into damage instead of an insta-loss?

You should be incredibly proud for a first jam game dude!

@achebit Thanks!

In other Tile-matching games (Tetris, Puyo Puyo, SEGA's Columns), you always lose if you stack too high.

But it make sense to make overstacks translate into damage, because I combined it with an RPG system. That's a good idea.

I originally planned there are 4 enemies.

- 1 Slime: Deal physical damage. Block some area.

- 2 Octopus: Deal magic damage. Block more area.

- 3: The Third one will have low CD times which made the fight more difficult.

- 4 Medusa: She will transfer your blocks into stone(garbage).

But it's only 72 hours, so I only finished Slime and Octopus parts.

This is my first Game jam and I really love it! Thank you so much!

I love the idea and I'd play hours of this thing! xD

It's an impressive work, but I think it needs more polish, not more content. I'd keep playing this single level over and over if I had a more precise feeling of what was happening - I got too focused on the puzzle and I won without even looking at the other part of the screen. A warning when the monster is about to attack, or some more flashy feedback when you do a combo, for exemple, would help a lot.

I also think one of the main puzzle/tetris games concepts is the urgency of having to decide fast, and I missed that in here. The blocks not moving down progressively is not an issue, but having a set timer to decide each play would be more challenging and fun!

Overall, great game, specially when you did it alone! Good job!

@gustavo-manchae Thanks!

Yeah, I remove the "blocks keep moving down" rule from my game. Because I think it will be a huge pressure and you won't have time to think how to stack blocks / make combos / prepare for next BOSS attack and only have time to focus on the puzzle part.

But give a reasonable time limit is a good idea. Thank you!

Love the core mechanic! Really clever! I felt the puzzle part needed some visual feedback of some sort. I won but some of the successful moves that I was achieving I wasn't 100% sure why. :P But wow overall!

The game itself plays well, but I don't think there's as much merging of the genres as I would have liked; it felt like a puzzle game with an RPG to the side instead of a full-on puzzle RPG. I think enemy attacks that more directly interfered with your board would really seal the deal: things like reversing your input, increasing the drop speed, turning your blocks into garbage tiles, etc. Based on some of your comments, it seems you were going to do that but ran out of time, which I totally understand. Either way, I had a great time playing your game!
