NOTE: To play in Firefox, you have to enable the dom.moduleScripts.enabled flag in about:config. Just enter about:config in the address field, search for the given name and double-click it to activate. Hopefully, when Firefox 60 is released, this won't be necessary anymore.

Round-Based Real-Time-Strategy game - mash-up between turn-based and real-time.

This is a two-player game that has to be played on the same screen. Wanted to do real multi-player over the internet, but had no time for the server. Hopefully after compo... By any stretch of imagination this is only a gameplay prototype: simplistic graphics, no music, no sound effects :/

You can and maybe you should play it on your phone :)

The goal is to get your units to the other side of the game field. Place units by selecting one from your selection bar and dragging it on the field. Or just click to select and click to place.

Units

The units will move on their own, you have no direct control. They will move to the other side, if not distracted by enemy units. Units of different types behave quite different:

  • The tank will ignore all units but the Cannon. He will try to kill the cannon, if he sees it.
  • The Cannon will not move but will distract the Tank and also shoot any ground units.
  • The Shooter Group are 5 little shooters - fast, deadly but easy to kill. They will attack both ground and air units.
  • The Airplane is the only air unit. Most units cannot reach it, while it unleashes a rain of bullets.
  • The Spinner does area damage in a small radius around it. Otherwise it's pretty tough and can act as a small tank.
  • The Impaler has a spear that does enormous amount of damage, although quite slowly. It is fast as well, so can be used as a runner, like the shooters.

Turns

The two players take turns. Every turn lasts for only 5 seconds, so be quick. Or you can use the whole turn duration to give your troops some time to hack and slay.

Cooldown

After using a unit, it will be locked for 20 seconds to prevent you from spamming too much of the same units :)

Have fun and leave comments!

Very fast paced rounds made it hard to choose the unit you want to with the mouse so quickly, especially since the area you select units from are on opposite sides. Regardless, it was entertaining to spam a bunch of units on each side and see how things turned out.

Need more work because it's a little chaotic but i get the idea and with a little more work it will be very great and i would love to play it with friends. Turn based real time is a really hard theme anyway and you made something that fits great

Just played with a friend, we took a play to understand how it works, and it's a very fun game :). My opponent said that it would have been cool if icons and text were written to his side (we played on a phone).

@sebbernery Yeah, when I tested later with a friend, he said the same. Definitely something to add. I'll see, when I have time to return to this game. I would really love to finish it properly.

Nice idea!
Needs audio, polish and a computer to play against.

I really like the crisp and clear presentation; the icons are all nice and distinct and help to suggest the unit's function as well. The game was a fun sandbox to play around with, and I enjoyed seeing how all the units interacted. I think additional feedback would be helpful, particular in visualizing where units are going/attacking; without having clear/discrete rules it wasn't obvious how things would play out.

Cool idea. Hard to play with the turns so short, maybe a short frozen time to switch players every turn would fix that.

This is a really cool concept. I'd add some "downtime" between players to swap mouse (unless it can be played with a controller?). Needs some balance as well, audio wouldn't hurt. But as I said, the idea is good, and nails the theme perfectly.

@rplnt Totally agree :) It's probably best to play on one phone in the current state. But to be honest, makes much more sense to make it into an online-multiplayer. Sounds and music... yeah, would love to add some, just didn't have much time for this compo.
