The core mechanics are pretty fun. The speed of the car and the spacing of the parking spots/competitors makes for some fun and frantic dodging around the streets. I tend not to be a huge fan of retro-styled music and sfx, but I could get into these.

I would have liked to see income play a bigger role, mechanically. Maybe every day I have to repay a loan, or make more cash than a competitor (the second option would make for some interesting dynamics of crashing a competitor's vehicle, paying the fine, but also cutting their profits). I recognize that level of balancing and worldbuilding might be outside the scope of the Compo, though.

I don't have much else to say, really. The game's fun, arcadey, polished, and has an aesthetic that it holds to well. Good work.

I loved the ending!

[edit] I rated your game now. Enjoyed this entry a lot. It felt polished and like it could be a real game from the 80s.

The game reminds me of this old arcade game I can't remember the name of. I like the retro graphics and music! The gameplay was fun, but could use something more to it. The game felt polished overall, and I really liked the "story" and ending.

Well done! :D

The music in this game is great, as are the cutscenes. Really cool! The game itself is pretty fun, but it feels something could maybe added to push it to the next level. It's pretty easy as it is now, but that's not a bad thing by itself. You've got a cool style overall and it feels coherent, and the ending is pretty crazy, so that's just perfect :D Good job!

I tried to kill every cat, but one hid in a hole. 0/10 would not be outsmarted by cats again.

Enjoyed the music and art. The game felt late 1980s to me, maybe a cheap Commodore Amiga game or PC-88 (though the scrolling is probably a bit too good for PC-88). Nice work!

Haha, I really liked this. Gameplay is surprisingly fun and tight, it feels good to drive around. It'd be cool to see how it played if you increased traffic by like 300% and made it super hectic.

The lofi sounds and music are really good and help sell the whole thing a lot, the ending sequence too.

Fun old school feel and gameplay! I hate that real estate tycoon and also the kamikaze food truck enemies that expect me to pay for their car even though they crashed into me while I parked. Loved the ending animation.

Brill one! 8 bit feels meets crazy taxi meets the original GTA in my browser. And that ending!! Congrats.

Nice music, Nice ending, Nice gameplay, Nice intro too.

I'd like a bit more depth in the gameplay, but it was really fun!

Music was really good! Enjoyed playing it a lot too :) The ending reminds me a lot of the ending you get in No Man's Sky! I found that as long as you turn your car around and make other cars face your back, you can get them to 'queue' up behind you while you earn more money! I like the fact that I'm forced to move between the city blocks in order to maximize profits as well! Great work, really enjoyed the game and especially I liked the fact that this was all done in HTML5!

Fun game. I like the music. I really like the zoom out cut-scene for the end of the game. Really slick. If you get a chance check out our entry https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/down-the-rabbit-hole

Overall great game.

I particulary liked the music and graphics as they give the game an old arcade game aesthetic

This was really fun. I liked the cut scenes and the graphical cartoony style. The theme "A small world" seemed a little bit forced, bechause it hasn't too much to do with the actual game. But this is only my opinion. Overall this was a super experience.

Like the game. The only thing that I miss is a way to lose. Great final scene indeed.

Nice music and atari style game (the cats give a really retro style, it is a very nice gesture). It could be cool if the game get harder and harder and the money could be used to do things, as @amras0000 said. But in too few hours I understund that it is not possible, any way, you have a game that you can keep developing, it is a good thing :)

Cool ending, by the way.

fun game, nice music, I liked the story aspect. Also huge respect for taking the hard route and writing the whole thing from scratch in typescript just using canvas. I also quickly tried your entry for minild 73, a shoot em up music player so strange, excellent.

This is a one good game. Not only it is fun, but your interpretation of the theme is pretty creative. Not to mention the ending is surprising. Music was also good.

I returned to this now after playing it before judging.

Music is the best I've heard so far in this LD (especially the ending one).
The ending cutscene is marvellous!

Game itself is pretty easy, but everything seems consistent, working and planned which puts it on a level above LD games.

I think I would've put waaaay more kitties and made it game over when you run one over, but that may change the game goals too much so I dunno :P

Wow, the last thing I was expecting from one of your entries was an ending cutscene, let alone one so fancy.

The music was great (except for the opening screens where it didn't continue through slides and just started over). The concept is great in itself, very original. Avoiding the other cars, changing locations constantly - keep is interesting!

The overhead view reminds me of the old GTA games (that's a good thing. You got points for that. Hurray!)

A pleasant 5 minute game :D Nice music and art, and the whole thing felt like something from 1990. Good work :)The game is a bit too easy however (there wasn't a lot of challenge there, just driving to a green area and waiting) so I feel the game could haved used more depth, maybe some levels with more traffic or ways to spend some of the income pimping our vehicle, i don't know! .

Cool idea, but think it needs some more work to make it a more enjoyable game.
Other cars drive into you when you're not moving and you get penalised.
Add pedestrians and people who actually buy from you. Make it so you have to try and find a busy area to get lots of money. Have people come out of buildings for their break time.
I never felt like i was competing with the other trucks.
The obstacles on the road didn't really seem to add much. Maybe block off ways with road works that change over time so you have to find new routes.

Haha that was great! I'll gladly pay $82 to destroy my competitors van! Fun little game with THE BEST ENDING EVER!
