Space Caves by adamgryu

Hey there! Space Caves is a WIP title.

SpaceCaves1.png SpaceCaves2.png

In Space Caves, you navigate dangerous caverns in your spaceship! My original idea was to mix Dark Souls and a space shooter. It ended up being too ambitious, so the game is missing a lot of content.

Anyway, its really meant to be played with a gamepad, so please plug one in if you have it!

Gamepad Controls: * Left Stick - Move * A - Shoot * B - Boost

Keyboard Controls: * Arrow Keys - Move * Z - Shoot * X - Boost

Use the SHOOT button to activate Pit Stops. They restore your health, but you can only use them once per game.

Download Link: * Windows * Mac

Can't believe no one commented here yet. It's the best platformer(admittedly it's not a platformer... don't know what this genre is called) I've played in this LD so far.

This is a really awesome game. Very polished, very playable, albeit a bit on the tough side.

Keep on working on this, it's worth it! And don't forget saving facilities :)

-I enjoyed the big reverb on your sound effects -so much-
-The animations are on point. Excellent use of squash and stretch. Clearly you know what you're doing here.
-Particles look fantastic. Shrinking rather than fading is beautiful.
-Controls feel excellent. It's always my fault if I die (played with a game pad).
-Reload mechanic is solid and well implemented. The limits feel good. I know when it's my fault I fired too fast.
-The faces are hilarious and give big personality to the game. Great touch.
-The bullet is incredible. Physical bullets that push everything around, including the player. Genius. I love that it looks and sounds like a racket ball. Like, love love. Definitely my favorite part.
-Environmental puzzles were a great addition and a pleasant surprise. I would love to see more of this.

If you continue work on this little gem please let me know. I want to play more. High marks from me.

Fun game! Love the faces on the objects. Controls feel great with either keyboard or gamepad. It was a bit frustrating in the tighter areas with the enemies chasing you, but kiting them around eventually helps you to progress. I'd keep working on it. Nice entry!

Lol that was fun. I missed some type of checkpoint feature, but I guess the game is not big enough to require it (or is it?). Loved the bouncing mechanic... but actually killed myself 2 times when my bullets pushed me the the red areas lmao. Controls are good and intuitive enough. The sound effects for shooting/coins are well put, just was lacking some music. Nice entry overall!

It's difficult to get used to turning only on 90 degrees, because of that I lost a couple of times. The game is really hard, but in a good way, visuals are nice and sound effects are well matched. It is very solid entry!

This is really good. The only issue i have is the echo sound when you shoot. It seems a little bit too loud. The character controls really well and movement is really smooth. I really wish you would have had more time because I wanted more when I got to the end.

Holy reverb, batman! It's as if the entire cavern is made out of vibrating metal plates xD

Anyways, cool stuff! Interesting gameplay with the bouncing bullets as well. Wish death wasn't so punishing so that I could actually explore the rest of the game!

Lovely entry. I thought the shipped controlled well and I really like the idea of having to be wary of your surroundings and of your own bullets. I think this is a nice base of something can be expanded on and turned into a full game. :rocket::boom::sparkles:

Well done on your game! I really did enjoy it. The art was awesome and you have some pretty solid mechanics here already. Though, due to lack of saving I could never get very far, but as far as I got it felt good. You could continue development on this, and you should. Nice game.

The visual effects here are fantastic. Enjoyed the shoot/boost/death particles and parallaxing stars quite a lot.

Gamepad controls were nicer than keyboard, though I wonder whether there's any reason for it not to be a twin-stick or wasd+mouse setup in an expanded version. Also since left click is bound to shoot, I think right click may as well be bound to boost..! :)

The level design was enjoyable too!

Looked super awesome, especially the animations. Sounds effects fit the feel well too. Of course some music would have been nice. First tried with keyboard. Got frustrated after few deaths and plugged in a controller. The control was so much better after that.

Was the pit stop supposed to be a checkpoint or what? Did not seem to do anything for me.

Great realisation ! The gamefeel is excellent thanks of many visual and audio feedbacks.
I don't really know what is the main goal of this game, but shooting stuff around is fun :)

Game has some serious aesthetic going on. Love the bright colours, cartoon faces on things and the wavy streamers.

Also, having that reverb really helps to up the mood, which is kinda strange as it's just an effect but it's super effective!

The gameplay was a little unforgiving, but nevertheless a solid, fun entry.
