Sunken Soldier by OmnipotentIndie

[raw]
made by OmnipotentIndie for LD 41 (COMPO)

With your trusty bubble gun, maneuver around dangerous sea creatures, all the while catching and collecting as many fish as possible, trying to get a new highscore, in this SWIMMING (SPORTS) and SHOOTING game. Web HTML version available, so easily accessible with no download.

Instructions

Use your mouse and left click to propel yourself around with the bubble gun's knockback. Avoid Sharks, Turtles, and Jellyfish. The fish are harmless, but you have to shoot them with your gun to get points. You also get points whenever you shoot, but you lose some whenever you hit a wall, the ceiling, or the ground. Try to get a highscore.

Any plays would be very appreciated. Please rate in all categories.

Very difficult but also very fun! The sound effects went nicely with it, and the graphics felt very cartoony and welcoming. The bounce on the walls felt too small to be helpful however, and I often found myself being killed by running into a wall and being unable to get out of it. Perhaps allowing arrow keys as well as the mouse to control the gun would be helpful for that. Overall a great game. I had a lot of fun playing it

Fun little game! My favorite part was bouncing off the walls, but then I noticed I was losing points for that haha. So I didn't like the scoring but the movement felt good!

@crown-games Yeah, that was the biggest problem with the HTML version. I can't fix it now, but if you want to play it without that, the download version works fine

Nice game. Some enemies are a little hard to avoid, though. And without the description I wasn't able to figure out what two themes were combined. Otherwise, good work.

So well balanced in a way of graphics, sound, responsiveness to user input. All parts fits together and make the overall feeling from playing complete.

There is a really cool mechanic going on there! I feel that the bouncing should be promoted, though. It's super fun and adds depth to the whole system in a different way than other games. ^^

Simple to play, hard to master. I really had fun with this game. An ocean background music will be perfect for this game.
Check out my game too:

Nice concept, and wonderful execution. The audio and graphics are very polished, congrats for making them in such a short timeframe!

Regarding gameplay, it's fun, but way too challenging for me! Maybe you should try to have a larger area (or smaller sharks) or that the gun recoil moves the soldier more, because for it's very difficult to avoid all those jellyfish and sharks coming at you.

Oh, and it would be even better if you could start the game with "mouse click" instead of space :)

A very funny little game! The character is a bit big on the screen which makes the dodge difficult enough! If the area was a little bigger it would be great!

You seem to recommend the web version a lot, but the game is unplayable on web to the point where I'd recommend removing the web versions and leaving only the source and the downloadable. The play area is a little too small, the game should be zoomed out a lot, at least 3x, and also too unforgiving as 1 touch and you're dead.

Neat game. Don't think I've seen one like this where shooting is your primary source of points AND moves you. I feel like the game could be zoomed out some and maybe allow the fish and such to come from all directions of the screen? And i'm a stickler for music so anytime a game doesn't have music I always recommend to put some in :musical_note: Great job though!

Fun, hard, and short game. Great sprites!

Once I figured out that you can't actually kill the enemies and you just have to avoid them, this was super fun. My high score's only 18 but I feel like I earned it. Nice work!

like the visuals, the difficulty is nice balanced too, some larger enemies should appear less frequently I think, but surely it could be easily ajusted... nice work!

Nice work but found it very hard to navigate around the sharks.

nice art and fun game, but i was confused about the scoring until i read your notes about it here. it would be nice if there was some kind of visual clue in game that hitting the sides of the screen was making you lose your points.

anyway, i'm enjoying getting better at this :)

This is pretty cool. I like that the main mechanic is also what makes the game difficult (moving around properly is hard!) I think some text effects to help explain scoring in a subtle way would've helped out, as I didn't get what the numbers even meant until after I'd played a few times. Overall this was a pretty good entry. Very fun and casual. Nice work!

I really enjoyed this game. I love the graphics.

The bouncing was difficult to control, but i think if either the level was larger, or the player was smaller would improve that.

The point system was a bit difficult to get used to since it wasn't easy to not touch the walls or a fish. I did like the art. Good game!
