Hidden Shadows by Artur Hawkwing

[raw]
made by Artur Hawkwing for LD 40 (COMPO)

pic.png Banished to a realm of shadows and darkness by the Necromancer Alaeaus, you are desperately seeking an escape. But every move, it seams, causes the shadows to cling to you all the tighter. They weaken your senses, darken the world, and threaten to prevent you from escaping this curse. And after all, the more shadows you have, the worse it gets.

pic5.png pic4.png pic3.png Use multiple camera angles, including a special 'army view' you can use when commanding your soldiers against the forces of Alaeaus!

pic2.png Silent Shadowmen lurk in the dark, and pedestals spawn shadow-spheres that track you down until you are left in darkness--unless you shoot them down first! Both shadowman and shadow-spheres can be killed.

Note: Some scenes take a few moments to load, the buttons do work :)

Controls: W - forward S - backward A - turn left D - turn right Mouse X axis - rotate view Left click - attack Right click - change camera view Space - jump

Controls and game data also are listed under "Mechanics" in the main menu.

Have fun!!!! --Artur Hawkwing

That was a cool game. The levels were a bit tricky sometimes, I found myself wanting different camera angles, but it was neat. I particularly enjoyed the story line.

Take some time to get used to the controls (a ist turn left not strafe left. In the result I never used a ;-).
Good animations for a 3D game in 48 hours. I liked the story.

The controls are... terrible. Why would you even make the arrows work like this? There is not point in eve using them...
And no Y-axis camera control? Seriously?

But as a concept the game is fine... If only it wasnt' so much PvUI..

I definitely agree the controls are not the best, and It was only at the end that I found a camera angle I really liked (and did not have time to put in all scenes). I agree on the y-axis camera motion--I never added that, but it would have been fairly easy and I should have! I'll definitely fix that next LD.

Interesting game, however the text took way too long and I was anxious to dip in the game. That added to the fact that the application kept freezing, made me a little impacient. I must say it also freezed in menus and on game over.
Also, short after starting I did fall from the map, upon exploring xD
The controls were a bit weird, I felt like the rotation could simply be handled by the mouse. Which could maybe benefit from the Y-axis, like Hilvon referred.

Good job on adding a pause menu, however if I paused mid attack, the sounds kept playing, I thought I had bugged the game. I also liked the animations, and the shadowmen have a mysterious and good looking model.

It's a good concept, and surely is a prototype worth development. Nice job :)

I quickly learned that the best way to move around was to completely avoid the A and D key. and to turn using only the mouse.
I best the game, but when I jumped into the yellow thing left by the spinning orb it took me back to the second level.
I need closure, please DM me the ending.

Sorry to hear that! I made a fix for that bug and will upload it, so now the end can be reached.

Here is a synopsis of what the game skipped:
After reaching the key, you are presented with a message describing how you return to your native world, with an army of freed Shadows. In a 5th level, you battle Alaeas's army in from of his castle with these allies. After defeating him and his army, you banish the remants of evil left by Alaeas.

3D during a game jam is always ambitious, especially for a compo entry!

The controls were a bit tough, and I will be fully honest in saying I did not finish the game but I feel like I have a good feel for what's there.

Overall it was enjoyable once I got the feel for things, and you can tell that there was some serious work put into it!
