Whispers From the Soul by Sfey

[raw]
made by Sfey for LD 41 (JAM)

Hey!

WASD to move, L-Click to shoot and Alt + f4 to exit

Chose Hack'n'slash x walking sim as my themes. Although it's actually more like Hack'n'slash X Base conquer.

Your goal is to conquer enemy shrines, have to hit them in the center quite a bit. Once the shrine is "broken" it will stop spawning enemies. You have to stand near the center for a while to make it your own - allies start spawning once the shrine is yours.

Conquer all the shrines to win.

Soloed this jam with only help from my brother who made the background music and helped me record the sound effects. Everything was also made during the jam (except for some slices of code borrowed from my other projects). I usually try to learn and do something that I haven't done much before, this time had fun with particles and AI ;)

Hope you enjoy! Cheers! :)

Pretty Impresive for a solo entry.

Not a CS:GO of course, but hey, you have had only 72h, and it works!, although I thought that my allies should help me.
I managed to beat your game, and it was fun!

Say hi to your bro for the sound track.

I thought it was decent! Surprising how much a single music track can add to the mood. A clearer indicator of when enemies are being summoned, or when the shrine changes ownership, would be awesome. Also it'd be nice if my dudes helped with the war effort - not all together obviously because they'd steamroll, but maybe a wave of a handful of dudes every x amount of time?

Anyway, I'm just spitballing here. Overall I thought this was a decent effort and I had fun playing it!

The mood was great! I actually found it surprising how chill this game was even while I was fighting for my life. I think that the rocks probably should've had colliders so that they could block shots and make combat more interesting, and I think that the shrines should've had some indication of their health, but aside from those two points this was well done. Nice work!

its is simple game and lot of action in this game i love it. But there is some bugs like the game over scene. You are gameover already but you can also run and shoot. But overall its a good entry for ludum dare 41. Good Job!!

The action was kind of clunky, but I really loved the music and particle effects in this game. With some better character and environment assets, the game could look really cool.

Sounds and effects make this satisfying to play! I wish there was a lot more visual indicators of things like enemy health, enemy spawns, whether you've taken over the shrines. It's a cool base idea and I wish you luck in improving it!

It has a unique atmosphere, specially because of the background music, which is amazing.

The game overall is nice, I like the main concept, it was funny and has its own complexity (because of the AI behaviour). If you are going to develop further, in my opinion you could consider setting some sort of feedback of how much life do you have left.

Also, posting a WebGL build it's a great advantage since we don't have to download it, but WebGL sometimes doesn't behave well with 3D scenes that feature realtime illumination or particle effects, so just in case some players have problems with it maybe you could upload a Windows build (I am not an expert nor any good with programming though, so maybe I am not right at all xD).

Anyways well done, it is a good entry!

@AnaGF You can actually see your health in the top right corner and there's a downloadable windows version available on the itch io page.

Planning to develop it further and thinking to release updated version just before the jam voting ends as I'm trying to avoid polished version affecting the ratings :)

Glad you liked it! :)

Good effort! Would have been great with an indicator or just a sound when you take over a shrine. Also the game could have been a lot faster. Keep working with games mate!

Goo work!
The core mechanics can be taken and improved - make a little bit faster, rebuild the realization and add more information on HUD.

I honestly did not understand the theme that this game was going for so i could not not get into it fully but I still managed to see that there is fun projectile based shooting with some skill required to play it which made me happy :)

Check this out, some skill is required even though it's highly unpolished :)

Confusing theme. Though I was able to move around and kill some things.

Nice music, very relaxing :)
Also the enemies head are good, they give an idea about how they would be if you had more time to do it.

Great work!

This was a fun little entry. Not a lot to the play mechanics, but a neat quick game. Good music, too. Great job!

The shooting was satisfying when hitting an enemy. Having some more feedback on capture points would have been nice, but it works mechanically and that's what's important for a jam game! The jumping seemed to get a bit wonky on me, but it didn't seem to be integral to the gameplay. Great atmosphere and mood!
