Effigies by Geckoo1337

Effigies.jpg

The project "Effigies" is my entry for the 43th LudumDare session. As usual, I did a puzzle game. Use arrows key to move Amulets - each of them must be on its colored base (red, green and blue). This game is really hard and each movement must be considered. Be careful - purple snakes hurt you! I guess that players have to do many efforts to finish the entirely game - sacrifices must be made :)

USE ARROWS KEYS TO MOVE EFFIGIES

ESCAPE TO GO BACK - TO THE MENU

R TO RESTART A LEVEL

PS : source code is inside the zip file. I create each level using a simple string - and all objects too. Take a look at these scripts which I use commonly because I like this way. If you have a question, I will be very happy to considere your request - follow me on Twitter : @geckoo1337

PLEASE leave a comment - this way I can rate your project too ++

On the 1 level I put all the three figures on corresponding colored tiles but nothing really happens. How do I get to level 2?

Just played through 6 levels, it began to get a little hard for my brain :-D
Pretty cool game, very similar to your other puzzle games, but I like it. Always liked the screen effects you got going it fits really well :-)
The last few puzzles requires some brains 😄 Anyways, another simple and very puzzly game from you, and smooth aswell :-)

I had a lot of fun beating this game!
The puzzles were really challenging
Though the win detection felt a bit off, seemed like I had to give the game a little time to catch up

A good looking and neat puzzle game, as always. I'm not disappointed and I still like puzzles, but will you ever offer puzzles game, or will I be surprised the next time ? :P Well, this is a joke, I prefer a good puzzle game like this, rather than an half failed experiment like I almost ever make. ;) Keep doing the good job, it's always a pleasure testing your LD entries. :)

Really interesting puzzle game, and great, fitting music.

It seems to "animate" the effigies that aren't moving, which means I press a button, one moves, then I press another button, but it ignores that button press because it's still animating the effigies that aren't moving, I guess, which makes the controls really frustrating. Makes it even more confusing that it doesn't play a sound for the effigy that isn't moving, just takes up time/feels like the game locks up.

Level 7 appears to not be solvable, in that I get my 3 guys in the right place, but the level does not end!

![Untitled-1.jpg](///raw/dd3/z/1f524.jpg)

Wish I could get to level 8, otherwise, great game!

I didn't understand how this game fits to the theme. However it is really good and challenging. I real goot entry. Thank you very much

As an improvement you could considere adding a move count and an optimal solution count too

Wow! I worked last year on a puzzle prototype with the same mechanics :D How ever this is a very solid entry an i enjoyed it :) Though one thing, the movement speed could be a bit higher. But overall well done!!

I'm usually not a fan of puzzle games, but this one was great. I didn't really see how it tied to the theme, but definitely a lot of places you could go with this one. Good job, and I hope you keep developing it!

You weren't kidding when you said this was hard. Ended up getting to the last level before quitting. Really well done for a puzzle game.

I thought this game was plenty hard before the snakes showed up! ^_^

 I like how the tile graphics helped us line up our sliding effigies. I also really like the gameplay idea here, it's a nice twist on sliding puzzle games (particularly the boxes).

:point_right: I could only get to the 6's level before the difficulty became too much for me.

:star:Overall great job. Thank you for making this!

Really cool! Sometimes the order which the effigies move is important, but ambiguous - and puzzles should usually try to minimize ambiguity. Aside from that, I enjoyed it! Could use some polish, with graphics and animations. Good job!

I really liked the concept of this puzzle game and would like to come back to it. It was a lot of fun to try to work out a way to re-order the effigies when the solution tiles were not in the same order as they started. Some additional polish could make this a really terrific game.

Really great puzzle game. Some of those last few were a little challenging, but I enjoyed it. Animations and game play were smooth and I didn't encounter any bugs. Good job!

Interesting concept, but the slow turns makes it difficult to want to keep playing, especially as the difficulty increases. I understand the reasoning behind making them move one at a time, but the game would flow a lot more smoothly if they all moved at once.

I am impressed by how challenging these puzzles were while having very simple mechanics. I also like how for most levels, you don't have to do it in a certain set of moves, you have some margin of error which is rare in turn based puzzle games I think. I would have liked to see the theme in this though (unless I am missing something).

I have nothing bad to say about this game ... truly a great game to play and also very fun. It was just the right ammount of hard that keeps you playing and that is a hard thing to accomplish. Congratz!

Holy cow that was really hard...

I really liked your concept. The level design was great, and the core mechanics were solid. My only criticism of the core of your game was the moving blocks. It seemed to confuse your concept a little bit (a game this difficult shouldn't confuse me with moving objects in addition to the already static ones). Also, I felt like your audio didn't all gel together, but this wouldn't be a very hard thing to fix.

Great job with your game!

Very cool game, both as a puzzle and as executed with graphics, sounds, and controls. I made it through six levels before my head started to hurt and I gave up. Some of them seemed possible to win just by color-cycling enough at random, without really understanding the optimal way. It might be cool to know what the minimum number of moves is. It would also be cool to have a reset level option, or even undo, so you can go back when things get bad. Very impressive, nice work.

These levels were quite tough, and did my brain in! I found myself almost randomly moving things around, hoping to get it right. Worked on the middle stages, but those last ones were very tough. The boxes severely increased difficulty! As many are saying, the controls feel unresponsive since you need to wait a second or so between movements. Could have been sped up, but none-the-less, made for a fun game!

I like that this game makes me have to think more than once how to solve a puzzle. The graphics are cozy and i like the grainy filter. The music is superb, would be amazed if you composed it as well. Lovely game.

Really nice concept for a puzzle. The music fit really well with the art direction you took and some of puzzles were brutal. As some others have pointed out the controls felt a bit off but I still enjoyed the experience :)

A fun puzzle game with nice music and a simple art style. Slight difficulty spike around the 4th level but im bad at puzzle games. Very quick concept to grasp however. Brilliant game :)

Excellent puzzle game! I had fun and finished the game. I realized that levels with more constraints (snakes, "forbidden" box moves) were actually easier in a way because you just have less options consider. I absolutely love the music, great job on that one too. I didn't really feel like I was making sacrifices? An idea could have been to have more effigies than you need to finish the level, and you have to sacrifice some of them to win? Anyway great job overall, keep making games ;-)

That was a beautiful little puzzle game! Very zen, not too hard but not too easy either. The simplicity of the graphics worked in it's favour and made me feel like I was playing a board game. The "well done" at the end of each level and applause at the end was a nice touch too. Great work!

Curse those purple snakes! Very nice entry, well designed and polished. I particularly liked the audio and style of the game. The theme gets a little bit lost but I understand where the idea links in. I didn't mind the slow movement speed, thought it just added to the feel of it.

Good level design. Also a retro style art and great camera cc effect.
If further devs can add a "back a step" would be great, sometime a simple mistake will let the character feed the snake coming with a irreversible death.

I always look forward to what you have produced. Last LD was one of my favourites and this time its another solid entry. You craft puzzles that appear to be simple, but underneath has so much complexity with slight variations here and there. Keep it up!

C'est bien fait ! La mécanique de puzzle est intéressante et bien maîtrisée. la difficulté croît comme il faut, et l'ambiance est cohérente. Mais le dernier niveau me fait mal au crâne :)

Awesome game!!!

The graphics are minimalist and very cool. It reminded me of Atari. The snake sprites also reminds me of Pitfall, from Atari. I liked the effect on the effigy when it couldn't move on the direction wanted.

The music fitted very well with the game, and the commands are simple and easy to learn and use.

The challenges are very good, I really liked the idea and mechanics of the game. It reminded me a lot of 2048. The game started with a very easy stage at the beggining for learning, and this is great, mainly because we move 3 effigies.

I think if you put more easy stages at the begging, to increase the difficulty more progressively, you could easily put it for sale on platforms like Steam. I think that minimalist puzzles have a good niche on Steam.

Congratulations for the game!!! Wish you all the best with your works!!!

Really good game with such a fun mechanic. Reminds me a bit of a rubik's cube, one move affects many things. It took some time before you figure out the algorithms you need to shuffle the effigies around. Having a move count score would be nice so you can try to improve the efficiency at which you solve the puzzles.

Interesting take on the theme, it is not clear at first how the theme was used but my interpretation was that you must sacrifice positions in order to progress further. Sometimes you would have 2 of 3 effigies in the correct position but the last one needed to do some algorithm to be put in place.

Great job!

I'm always impressed by the puzzle designs that are able to be created under a short timeframe. This one was really difficult to wrap my head around, in a great way, but I slowly started to get the hang of it.

Level 8 (the last one) was by far my favorite, I really enjoyed going through that one. There was an initial phase of experimentation, followed by some more concrete guesswork, then actual directed planning as I realized what constraints I needed to meet.

Thanks for a great design!

Good job. The puzzles didn't feel like guess work but still allowed for exploring how the level/world works to understand how to solve it.

The pushing block mechanic was unexpected. It seemed to open the levels up to a lot of different solutions. The game I worked on had a one similar puzzle in it to this idea, where the characters needed to exit a sliding ice area.

I almost didn't get to play this because my Windows isn't set up most of the time, but I'm glad I was able to get it working and check this out.

Wow! This is a very interesting puzzle game. The controls feel good, the music and sound effects are very fitting and the puzzles themselves are well designed in my opinion. Good job! I hate to ask, but time is running short and I need a few more ratings, so if you could spare a few minutes and try my game too that would be really nice of you!
