Fun mashup of genres. It was a bit difficult for me because my arrow keys are terrible and I'm just garbage at snake. Super cool that you guys made it for the commodore64, was there any specific reason? I think I saw all the rooms, but for sure definitely was not able to get all the coins, was there an ending? Good job!

Hey everyone, I found the insane person. points at @superfrog. We can all go home now.

How crazy is this. I can't even believe I got to experience and learn something about c64. Considering I never had one.

To play the game, go to: http://c64emulator.111mb.de/index.php?site=pp_javascript&lang=en&group=c64 and set joystick swap ports.

Now the real review: I wish I could read the code but opening it with a text editor didn't work. I tried to get all the coins. After I die, the snake goes in the direction which I was in before I died. After respawning, for example it just goes down. If I press right for example, it goes right 1 step and after down.

For graphics, considering the platform, I can only give it a 6/5. Those pixels are perfect, the colors could not have been better chosen. The overall response and growth of the worm is spot on. Just add more depth of field.

If you are in fact a time traveler and did this in the past, brought it here at the present day, please go back in time and tell me to buy bitcoin in 2014 so I can stop working and make games for fun/charity/helping

I tried it in CCS64 emulator, but I couldn't get past the 'press fire to start' screen. Is there an emulator you recommend?

Finally got it to work with VICE emulator.

Amazing work. I don't know what goes into making C64 games, but I assume it's very hard to get done for a jam!

Minor criticism is that the controls are not very responsive. When I do a short tap in a direction, it ignores it sometimes.

Overall very nice! A shame you didn't have the time to get a soundtrack in, because I love me some SID music.

Cool idea to develop for C64!
I would love to see the source for this.

This is probably the most work I've ever done to get to play a Ludum Dare game. Used the VICE emulator and played it with a game pad. Game looks great and feels nice. My experience with BASIC as a kid tells me coding a game like this is no simple task. Nicely done.

I was wondering if the unresponsiveness was due to the javascript based emulator I used. It seems like a couple other people reported the same thing. Maybe this wouldn't be an issue if I could load it into a real C64. Anyone try that? ;-)

That's probably the last platform I would imagine using for a game jam, as @mess110 said, you are insane (in the beautiful way).
I played in in browser, son I couldn't get the "full" experience, but anyway, nice work !

This is sooo cool!! It took me a little bit to get it running but I'm glad I made the effort. A little snake dungeon-crawl! Creative mash-up. Very fun and challenging. Simple but effective retro graphics -- the scanlines on the emulator I was using helped! The only thing I can say is I wish there was sound, even just a little collect chime... but I don't know how hard that is on a C64 on such a short time-frame. Great work.

i agree with everyone else here that your choice of platform is fantastic! as for the game, it's a simple, challenging take on snake, which totally fits the theme to a tee. good work!

Really cool that you chose c64 as a platform! The controls didn't seem very responsive, but that might've been on my end. Great job.

`A Game for commodore 64` Well that sure is something. Pretty solid game for only a couple days work on an old platform like this. I think my main suggestions would be to include some audio and probably have a bigger room size. The game only uses a small part of the C64s screen and just leaves the rest empty. Also, not sure if this is a bug, but every time you move to a new room the snake gets an additional segment.

@jupiter-hadley configure The joystick in the settings menu. And choose numpad+rcontrol
