Cosmic Flinger by TwinGhosts

[raw]
made by TwinGhosts for LD 38 (COMPO)

Defend your planet from invading hostiles! Stop the increasingly more difficulty waves with three different projectiles. Will you be able to hold out?

This is my first LD submission and my first solo (and finished) project in Unity. Enjoy!

I edited the downloads and the game is now updated to the newer version (Although nothing much has changed except for some buggfixes and 2 new wave types which were 1 line of code away from being implemented). Here's a small list of changes compared to the first version. -The background music loops now. -2 New waves (Fast every 3rd wave and Strong every 5th). -Shake effect works on enemy deaths. -Wave text doesn't dissapear after wave 8 anymore. -Added bullet color shower to the turret. -Code clean up and some extra comments.*

Total time spent on the project - update : 16 hours.

Total time spent on the project + update : 18 hours.

Controls: Move the mouse to Aim and Left mouse button to shoot.

Programs used: Unity3D (Engine) MonoDevelop (Code) Photoshop (Graphics) SunVox (Sound/Music)

Looks and feels like a finished game. Also, you stuck to the theme well. Great job!

The orbital shooting is really well done. It took me a few minutes of experimenting to get the hang of the aiming but after that I was able to plan my shots pretty well. I find hitting the enemies an interesting challenge. The green shots are the most fun. The ambient music is nice but I wish there was a bit more audio feed back for hitting the enemies. Great use if the theme!

Love the game. Graphics audio and gameplay are all on point! The only improvement I can think of is an increasing difficulty over time. E.g. decrease the time between individual enemies and increase their number every 5 waves.

@alexthedev Thank you, I really appreciate it!

@internetpaulicy Thanks for taking the time to write this review! Glad to hear that you liked it and I fully agree that there shouldve been some kind of audio feedback, but I failed to get it to work just before the deadline.

@rialgar Awesome, I really appreciate it! The game does increase in difficulty, slowly. The enemies get a little bit of extra HP based on the wave count  . But you are totally right, good feedback, it'd be good to increase the difficulty in a fun way!

I liked the aiming and different types of bullets, but I found that the game got boring quickly. More variation in enemies and quicker difficulty progression would make this more interesting.

This would be difficult to fit into a 48 hour period, but maybe an upgrade system and tower building system (making the game more like a tower-defense game) could improve it too? That's just my opinion, and maybe you had something different in mind, but I know that would help me enjoy the game more.

I know my review seems kinda negative, but it's not a bad game! Great job, especially with the audio and graphics.

@vikinggames Thanks for the compliments and thanks for the feedback!

Agreed, it gets boring rather quick. I'd love to build it into a type of tower defense game, believe it or not, it was actually one of my ideas haha

I appreciate feedback a lot, no need to praise the game to death. I prefer honest feedback!
It just sucks that I had less than 48 hours due to my birthday being on the 23rd, otherwise I wouldve tried to turn it into a tower defense!

Very interesting concept! I really liked that the projectiles changed their type, and the particles you added, while simple, they added a lot to the feel of the game. As a tower defense I think it would be very fun and entertaining, I'd love to see how you expand on it. Well done! =]
