Sleeping Titanium by Poorwill

[raw]
made by Poorwill for LD 41 (COMPO)

This game is a cross of an idle clicker and a match-three game.

The genres are conflicting because idle games rely on the fact that you idle and match-three games are very much hands-on.

You are alone in an old earth settlement.

Generate energy by interacting with a match-3 machine.

Build artifact animals to generate additional energy.

The energy is for him.

This was a fun game - very satisfying to play and think through pattern identification and strategy. I'm not really understanding the genre matchup, however. Also, the SFX to purchase animals hurts my ears a lot - might want to check to make sure you're not clipping as it seems disproportionately noisey compared to the rest of the SFX.

Good job!

Its nice and simple. But it gets boring pretty fast. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with my energy other get animals. I realize that's sort of the point of Idle games, but usually there's a goal. I don't see a clear goal.
Im not too sure what the items are the right are and how to complete them.

Also, just a random thing I noticed. If you click on a piece, then reset the board. the visual isn't updated. For example, if I click a piece next to the original, it will move it.

I found your game... oddly addictive. There was something compelling me to earn myself an electric sheep. Then, once I had one, I felt compelled to get another... then another... then some solar rabbits. Well done!

Wowwww I really love the art style for this game!! And the game is so simple yet it has the lure of both idle and 3 match games. Lovely work!

Thanks for the kind words!

@flameo326 yeah the initial upgrades have way too high prices, they don't come in nearly as quickly as they should.

Also nice intense QA action :D

It's really pretty, and hints towards a lore of greater understanding... The mechanics aren't new, of course, but I'm surprised noone had thought of that yet! Well done!

Just when I thought I'd go back to comments and make an electric sheep joke, I noticed it's an actual item to be purchased within a game. Nice overall, but I was missing some clear way to see how much energy do my sheeps/rabbits/chickens produce, how much more I'll get from upgrades and how much I'll gain by matching tiles.

At the first sight this might seem to be missing something, but if you'll thing about it again it is not. The mechanisms of each genre are done in very good way and it combines the addiction to stick with it as well as 'match 3' & 'idle clicker' do. Good Work, sir! I would love to see some expansion, perhaps with some moody music. I also think you have prepared interesting background for some story telling. Energy generation along with some artifact sounds cool. At least for me :)

Feedback on energy/s (both gain on purchase and current) for each item would help make progression more satisfying and help players understand how to min/max - which is one of key addictive features of a cookie clicker game. Otherwise I really liked the idea and it's a pretty zen game to play. Nice work!

Well done! I'm not sure how much I like the concept (and how well it would work if you made a complete, more polished game out of it). But as the product of just one weekend, this is great!

Here are some things I think you could do to polish the game a bit further:
- Auditive and visual feedback on long combos or getting four in a row instead of just three
- Some kind of goal (This doesn't have to be a way to win the game. Achievements or medals for a high score or a certain number of chickens would be a motivation for players to play on, for example.)
- Optimisation of the screen layout (now there's a lot of blank space)
- Background music

But the compo version is already working well and I had fun playing it.

It was nice to play. but I couldnt get the goal of the game. I had 10 sheep within 5 minutes, so what? what will happen if I had 15 or 20. another thing I noticed is that I earn same points even I match 6 in a row. by the way... good job.

It's an idle game, but it pauses when it's in the background, that's not fair! I'll admit I removed the window.onblur handler so I could leave this running in the background...

Being able to click and drag to swap might have been nice. Also bonus points for making 4+ in a row would be nice. It would have been nice to have some numbers displayed about what the upgrades do, so I could make a reasonable choice on what to buy next. Something made the match-3 start making more energy, but I wasn't able to figure out what, and soon the energy number was going up so fast I had no hope of figuring out what was going on, so the game basically turned into clicking randomly :(. I like the visual aesthetic, nice and clean, except where the sheep or chickens are randomly placed slightly outside their pen.

I'm not sure there's an end to the game or not, but after 100,000 energy it seems the text is cut off, only showing the most significant 5 digits. I haven't seen any upgrades in a while, so maybe the game is over... I guess I'll just buy more chickens...

Solid combo of two genres. I wish the clicker purchases had some indication of their energy per second generation so you have better choices on what has the best return.
