Gantan Guardian by lurumdurum

[raw]
made by lurumdurum for LD 38 (JAM)

Hey peepz!

Team Durum decided to participate again, and this time we bring you Gantan Guardian. Our team this time consists of 3 coders: Tom, Lisa and Almar.

The game is about defending a cell of an organism (Gantan). Use all the weapons at your disposal to defend the cell for as long as you can!

  • We recommend using a controller.

You can use both the keyboard and a Xbox360 controller though. The controls are shown in the main menu with their respective icons. The left button below the weapon name is for the keyboard, and the right one is for the controller.

* You can play the game here.

Great fun! Even tried to best my score a couple of times, which is not something I usually do.

Really cool game! It has a nice polished feel to it.
I especially love the weapons you implemented, they all make clever use of the small circular world :)

I Really enjoyed it, great entry!

Very fun game! Needed time to get used to the controls, though.

This was awesome! I loved the how the differences from my weapons and the enemy weapons forced me to split my focus. I also really liked the screen vibration effect, although it got a little ridiculous with lots of enemies on the screen.

Ha, good fun, simple idea, extended mechanic beyond the bare minimum. I like it! Has potential to be addictive. This would make a good mobile game, controls should be relatively easy to port to mobile devices.

Good approach on the theme :)

Good job! I'm leaving a rating, and I'll try to beat my high score :)

Wow i am impressed, i really enjoyed the gameplay of your game :) really great combination of simplistic art style coupled with great sound effects :)

One thing that could be improved tho would be that enemies sometimes spawn at your position and you can't really do anything against that, which can be a bit frustrating

So far one of the games i like the most :)
I managed to get to 500 points :D

Nice, this game really makes fun :) The gameplay is really well implemented - it makes fun to figure out how to not become crushed by the red enemies. I guess a local multiplyer would be super nice!

I like how the difficulty steadily increases with the enemies getting access to more and more of the powers that the player character has.

The game is fun, but the enemys spawning in the player is not very nice.

First time through I didn't realize I had more to use than straight shot and missiles, whoops, haha. I think the biggest problem people have already brought up, enemies spawning inside of you is simply not fair. Hard to hammer out all the bugs for a jam though, it happens. My only other comment is that there's a lot of unused space on the screen perhaps you could use that space by doing something simple, like putting reminders of what the button assignments are or something? All in all, fun little game, good job.

I like the idea of using multiple weapons and weapon timeout, but it turned out be hard to use them at the right timings. Later the game was more hectic and I liked the feeling of panic. My score was 1240.

I really liked the different weapons and how they felt to use. The sound worked well for an arcade game too. I wasn't a fan of the movement controls when you go around the circle, but I'm not sure how you could make it feel right. I didn't like how enemies could spawn directly on top of you.

Nice! I like how it all ramps up, so I have a chance to get the hang of things.

Really great combination of graphics, gameplay, and audio.

The game is very simple but fun because it is very intense but you have a lot of options to deal with the threats. I would recommend using a controller though, playing with keyboard when you are upside down is very confusing. The graphics and music is very nice and the camera shaking makes the attacks feels a lot more powerful. The second type and the forth type of missiles are very hard to aim tho, I feel like they should be better controlled. Ovearll, I really enjoy this entry. Well done!

Great game! At first I was confused at the weapons and keys, but because it starts of easy I could test them and easily familiarize myself, the game gets more difficult with ennemies having better weapons which makes it a nice challenge and all weapons are useful, well done!

Nice clean aesthetic. Controls took a second to get used to but I had a lot of fun once I got the hang of em. My high score was 1560. All the weapon types were nice and had a unique purpose. My favorite was the missile that goes through the planet. Great game.
