HomeScreen.JPG Welcome to Hoarding Havoc! Play as a mighty hero on an quest to collect treasure. However, you seem to have difficulty distinguishing treasure and trash. You pick up everything, even if it is just a rock! Of course, the more you carry, the slower you go; and the more opportunities there are to find more loot! But beware, if you exceed your carrying capacity you will fall, exhausted, unable to continue. So come one, come all, test your skills and see how much treasure you can carry out!

Notes:
High scores are currently only local to the current game session.
Mac/Linux builds are untested; Only the Windows build has been thoroughly tested. (I do know that Mac has an issue with 16:10 options showing up in the menu, instead of the 16:9 but haven't found a fix for it. The 16:10 ratio results in some portions of the screen being cut off.)
Don't forget to have fun! InGame.JPG

I lost my first game, with a Blink in hand, 4 steps from the goal, because I couldn't resist picking up a Shiny Sword. Sounds like me in every RPG I play.

My second game went more poorly, got horded by a goblins, and couldn't help hoarding their rocks, and never made any forward progress.

I like the simple card game mechanics. Could use a little more explanation - had no idea what the "uses" icon was until after I sat through the "tutorial", but I managed to figure out what all of the rest of the icons were during my first game. Maybe a flag or road icon would be better for the "distance to goal" value.

A game about me and a goblin taking turns throwing the same rock at each other. but the next one started throwing three rocks at a time... i really like the mechanic that you have to balance the inventory with the actual fights happening. I think some improvements could be done to the speed of the game. Good job!

You should add an ability to skip the text, now it felt like there was too much waiting. But nevertheless, the concept was cool, I liked the game.

Very fun! I love the pixel-graphics and the audio, and I have to give you credit for that "Lava Lamp" card. I find the game tough, but in a good way. It makes you plan every move, and balancing definitely is well-refined.

Overall a great job!!

I love the concept but I'd really prefer it if it was faster to play, text and fights in general go really slow, still a really solid entry in my opinion. Great job!

I'm setting up a rock fund so I can get all the rocks! Otherwise a nice little card game with a nice twist that beautifully incorporates the theme. I liked the retro sound effects, added some nice authenticity to the game. It felt pretty empty after a while since the pacing is a bit quite slow. Still a very solid game.

It would be better if slides on tutorial changes on click, not automatically. The mac build has an issue in windowed mode – you can't see a part of the game. But it is a solid game with many interesting features, good job

Really interesting concept, but I might've missed something in the tutorial. I ended up just walking around with no cards, and playing catch with a bunch of trolls until I reached the end...with no loot :(

Anyways, I really liked this one. I wasn't expecting to see a card game here that's for sure :P

Interesting card game, you don't see many of these. When using the blink card the monsters always seemed to catch up and I would have to fight them anyway. I think a skip text key (like space) may have helped speed up the game as it felt slow sometimes. Regardless nice compo entry.

A interesting game, but a lot depends on randomnes. In my first run I managed to get out, but I found myself severely beaten by rat, and out all the run I literally had no stuff to throw at enemies, while they were still coming at me, forcing me to kill them with hands, which hurt...
Second run I was literally buried by goblins under a pile of rocks as they were constantly trowing 3 at me for every one I returned to them...

That was an interesting take on the theme!

The "every inventory item is a card" card-based mechanics were quite interesting. Although randomness played a huge part, you still had to be strategic in the use of cards during combat. Use all your heavy items, and you might not have any weapons for the next encounter. And if you do not, you might accidentally overload yourself between encounters.

This formed a solid core for the game. The way the cards affected your stats, both when held in your "inventory" as well as when used worked really well, especially combined with the various effects of the enemy attacks.

The tutorial was a nice touch, although it progressed a bit too fast. It would probably have worked better as "click to continue", rather than as a slideshow, but that is a small detail.

The feedback through sound was sufficient - a few custom sound effects e.g. for each monster would have added even more to the mood.

Ultimately, the game mechanics were interesting and varied, but the events were perhaps a bit too random, which sometimes locked you in situations, where you couldn't do anything to prevent losing a few "turns" after. But it was an intriguing game nonetheless, which encourages replaying. Nice work!

Nice idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJp29JpDY1Y
