Gameplay: OpFern Class is a fast paced, arcade style shoot-em-up set in the distant future. This game was created in three days using Game Maker Studio 2.

Plot: We are the members of the air-to-space specialist group known as the "OpFern Class". Our mission is to track and locate the alien mother ship known as the Dreadnought. Using our new warp drive technology, our mission objective should be easier to accomplish. Even though I knew everyone wouldn't make it, I didn't think it would be like this.

Post patch notes: Just some minor bug fixes. Credits actually roll now without the game crashing. No improvements other than that.

Controls (Keyboard/Controller): Fly Ship: Arrow Keys/D-pad Fire Weapon: Z Key/X(PlayStation) & A(Xbox) Change Pilot: C Key/Square(PlayStation & X(Xbox)

Ghosts in the Toast: Avery Ruth (Programmer/Pixel Art), Mary Fellner (Traditional Artist), Michael Gaskins (Guitarist/Pixel Art) and Tyler Byers (Producer/Composer)

What an amazing soundtrack! The game play was awesome too, although if I could change one thing, I would have enjoyed some type of health bar for the boss.

Ok now that I've had a chance to play it, this is definitely the best game I've seen here so far. BUT, I really think it NEEDS mouse control for the spaceship, like in Tyrian.

Just played through a bit, (This game, is hard) and this thing is awesome. Great music, great graphics, and overall it's just a joy to play!
The different classes and the ability to freely swap would probably be my favorite bit.

Unfortunately, my game froze up when I started lvl 4. Which, I'll be honest, I can't tell if that's on purpose or not.

Either way, amazing job!

@mrpiedpiper that is a bug that we intend on fixing! The credits are supposed to roll after lvl 4 but ran into a slight issue. Glad you enjoyed the game!

(Just to make sure there's no mis-understanding- it froze when I was *starting* lvl 4. I didn't get to play that one :c Might have to replay just to see if I can later.

Super cool game! The graphics are awesome and the soundtrack fits perfectly. I like the option to switch between the pilots.

Amazing soundtrack, very good artwork, and solid execution of the scrolling shooter genre. The pilot portraits and dialogue before and after each level made me feel connected to the characters, so that there was some emotional impact when they were sacrificed, rather than just losing a weapon type. Very smart design choice.

I was not able to finish the game due to a freeze during level 4 right after the boss appeared and the music started. It seemed to flash back to the start of the first level (not sure if intentional), then froze. Despite this it is a very good submission. Nice work!

@jcroisant hey there! Conduit here. Firstly, we really appreciate the honest feedback. Secondly, the flashback was intentional but the freezing was not. Glad you enjoyed it, we certainly enjoyed making it! 👊⚡

Every part of this worked well, the enemies and their bullet patterns were well designed and apart from the freezing during the flashback sequence that you've already been alerted to it all ran smoothly. The music was nice and I enjoyed the idea that each ship has a unique firing type. Was a lot of fun!

Loved this game quite a lot! The second level though seems impossible!!!! Guess I'll have to do some more grinding and figuring out haha ! The plot , in my opinion, is what added to me wanting to stay and play! Graphics on the character facesets was just great! Overall feel of the game and character switching and enemy patterns and bullet dodging was just greatly executed. Really hope you had more time to just add more and more even to the graphics!! Well done

This is a very solid entry with great presentation (specially the music) and a oldschool feel. I think it's only missing a sub weapon (ultimate) for each pilot and it would be excelent.

Very well polished, well done.

real nice shoot em up game. I think it would have been nice to show the controlls inside the game especially because there are not that much. And also the abilities of the pilots. But when I relised, the purple one destroys the enemy shots oooh yea that was awesome :-D
also the Enemy Designe was verry good. Those sideways shooter things that don't go away until you kill them oooh man they were soo annoying but in a good way xD

Wow. This makes me feel incredibly inadequate. Your game is amazing! I also made a shooter, and whilst yours is better, my excuse is that mine is compo.

I would probably tweak the restarting thing tho, as restarting from scratch upon death was very demotivating. Maybe make the player restart the level instead of the whole game? I also wasn't sure about the score (???) thing at the top left. It seemed to have no relation to the game, and even went into the negatives? I thought that maybe it was a distance to boss, but didn't seem to be. Otherwise, an outstanding game, the music creates a groovy atmosphere!

That was left over debug code I thought I removed. It's actually the y axis in the room as the camera moves up.
