Requiescat in Pace copy.png

"REQUIESCAT IN PACE" Is a little graphic adventure-point and click, old-school styled, with some hints of mistery and puzzles.

"You have the old family album your mother gave you long time ago...you are here to remember...again...but this time is different...isn't it?"

We were inspired by some games of our childhood, the theme is represented through the story and even some of the gameplay mechanics, also the game was made in GAMEMAKER STUDIO 2. It has been our first Ludum Dare and our first project together. I (pelicanodepico-Álvaro Maldonado) haven't been developing games for too long so it has been and amazing challenge, I've learned more code in this days than in the past months!

In the other hand my partner (Enrique Silvela) has been developing games in the past, but this time he was in charge of the art style, we wanted to recreate that feeling of classic point and click adventures!

It has been a journey and We hadn't the amount of hours of sleep that we could wanted   but after all We had a great time and we learned a lot!

We hope you enjoy our game for some minutes at least! Feel free to make some critics! We would love to improve and that's only possible through your thoughts!

It was a bit tricky! But I made it eventually. It was a nice mystery and I had fun. What more do you need? :)

I like the idea for this game, and the atmosphere is really interesting and good. The puzzles was overall good, but logic behind them was not always super obvious. The ending was a bit weird and I am not sure I have solved all the puzzles. Overall a good adventure-point and click game. I would really like to see more of this game. Well done.

I really enjoyed your game, the logics behind the puzzle is a bit hard to follow at first but I managed to find a solution to it anyway (so not too hard). I liked the music and graphics, it sets a mood and suits well the game. Thank you for this game !

Good graphics, but everything keeps resetting. I can't do anything!

@duo-developers that's one of the main mechanics, it's in the tutorial. You have to drag and drop objects bellow the album to save them. Then you need to have all the objects of certain puzzles to solve them! Good luck next time!

I'll be honest: I didn't finish the game. I couldn't make it very far. I'm not a fan of these kinds of puzzles where the "logic" is a bit open-ended.

But I liked the art. You said you wanted to be inspired from older games and I think you nailed it. I got some "Real Myst" vibes from it.

The music, while nice, loops so often that it becomes annoying. And the click detection on the key is a little broken. I thought I had to do something to cut it out of the page (the grass drawing makes it look like it is sewn into the book).

I do really like the idea of a series of puzzles being solves in a book. That's really nice.

I beat the game, i liked it but are there different endings?

@sadsmile , thanks! currently there is only one ending but we did think about multiple endings, we dind't have time sadly. Thanks for the feedback.

There wasn't much implications on what you're supposed to do... I noticed some things like the plate, knife, and key, but I didn't know what to do with the rest. I could just be stupid and not understand these types of games. but the music and graphics/art were really good and set a definitely more serious vibe.

Great music and art but I couldn't appreciate this game. I'm not a big fan of puzzle games, especially those where you have no clue of what to do. Not my cup of tea

Yeah, we know @kitarraman we should had put some more clues, specially at the beginning. But thanks for the comment partner!

Hey guys, hope you had a nice time during the jam! Next time think of us (mac users) to play your game too! A web build works for all sides!

I did it! But I don't know why it worked (talking about getting the spoon)! And the ending didn't quite make sense to me. Absolutely loved the graphics and animations. I really wish there was more to it, or things to do with everything. Nice work!

Finally I did it! I'm a fan of riddles so I loved it. I really liked the mood and the artstyle in general, it feels polished. The riddle is a bit tough at the start but there are plenty of hints everywhere, so don't close the game instantly, give to it the right time! The only thing that you could improve is making something at the bottom of the album that says like "drop here the objects you want to keep". I know you said this in the title screen but a reminder would be great. Nice job! :)

I love it. It's really cool to see games like these on LD :) Nothing against arcade jumpy games, but it's great to have something like this for a change.

The spoon was kinda confusing but apart from that this was great. Really cool throwback to old Myst style games and it looked/sounded great.

@danyvk Un placer hermano. Estamos pensando seguir desarrollando la idea, que juegos de este estilo creemos que hacen falta. Nos alegra que lo hayáis resuelto, era un poco difícil, la verdad es que la pista de la biblia me parecía la más complicada. Un saludo!

This was a fun mystery. At first I was completely confused but I figured it out after some random puzzling. The individual puzzles were fine, but the overall mystery and story wasn't clear to me. I went back through and played it again after solving it the first time thinking I just missed something but it didn't make any more sense to me the second time than the first

For instance, the last puzzle, I knew exactly what I was supposed to do but not why I was supposed to do it. I like games where things are vague and open to interpretation, but this felt like there was a definite story but I was just supposed to guess it with very little clues.

I hope I'm not sounding overly negative. I enjoyed the game and had a lot of fun being frustrated. Narrative games are hard to pull off but this had a great feeling and mood to the whole thing. Graphics and music were nice also.

@minibobbo You are so right! We thought about giving some vague hints and have the story open to interpretation but we ended up with a weird mix between solid story and not very clever background lore. Thanks for the comment!

Very interesting game! I loved the puzzle-solving, it was just the right amount of challenging. I wasn't sure if I finished it properly however, because there were so many items I had never used and at the end I could only open 2 pages instead of all of them. Was that intentional? On the whole, it was a fun experience!
🎤 pelicanodepico
10. Dec 2018 · 12:20 UTC
@firebug don't worry about the end, we made it so you could only go to the first page to end it. And yes, we put to many items that did nothing on purpose. Thank you very much!!!

Really glad I played this. I ran into one bug where the key disappeared and I had to restart, but nothing major. The art style takes me back, and I enjoyed that the solutions to the puzzles weren't too obvious.

Wow very soothing and relaxing game. It took me some time to figure out that the space where I could drop items was below the book.

The background music is really nice - can I download it somewhere?

Thank you for making this!
