King Of The Building by Tiberiusuciu
We just finished our first Jam!
We present you our iteration of the theme "Sacrifices must be made".
Did you know the world's tallest building is Burj Khalifa Well no longer!

You have been selected among many others to a race to the top of the new world's tallest building (in construction) There can only be one winner and you may use any means to get to the top.

In addition, there is a rapid moving laser, scanning the building from the bottom to the top. It eliminates everyone that goes underneath it.
When scanning someone, the laser takes some time to process the individual.
PRO TIP Sacrifice your competition by pushing them off in order to slow down the laser!

Nice work. I tried 3 time to get to the top. It's fun to play.
my idea if you add some crazy faces when people get kicked, would make this game even better. Overall,it's a good entry.
I like the different pixel people and how the background changes, gameplay reminds me of the Toxic Tower from Donkey Kong Country 2. Fond memories :-)
Actually, I think that gameplay would benefit from the reverse mechanic: the line would go slower if you DON'T hit anyone. I mean, hitting someone when you are on a platform is no big deal, but dodging some other guy would be skillful.
It maybe woulnd't fit the theme this way, but the gameplay would be more interesting. Always you could think of it as a sacrifice of your persona to save the others. Even if it sounds bad, I would think of anything else. I represent the view, where you first create good gameplay and then add the story that fits it well :)
The piano beside being a little repetetive, was very relaxing, so + for you :D
Well, that was a really fun and refreshing entry! :)
The graphics are really great, well polished chars too. I think I saw Luigi and maybe other references.^^ As a whole it's a really good job graphically.
As for the gameplay, the controls are tight and correct. It's nice that you can hold down the space key to jump continuously.
Sometimes the competitors spawn a bit too much on the interior side of the platforms, making you fall back when you push them, but otherwise the mechanic works well.
The laser's speed is correct, I would pause it a bit more time when fed by competitors, right now it seems a bit like rubber-banding in race games. The three seconds to get back on your track is a good idea.
The music is a bit repetitive but nice (maybe just a longer loop would suffice) and goes well with the game speed and its atmosphere. The sfx are good as well, I think there is just a little "balance" problem, either the music is a bit too loud or the sounds are a bit to low.
Anyway, great job guys! o/
A basic tutorial, and nice job making something that is playable!
A few points of constructive criticism:
- I think the biggest bang for your buck improvements would be improving the controls, mainly the jumping. Always jumping when you just hold down the jump key feels awkward.
- The threat of the laser doesn't really work when it's off screen, and there are just numbers changing. It's exciting when it's on screen and nearly caught up to you, but that doesn't last as long. It's especially fun seeing it stop because you knocked someone in. I think finding ways to have the threat be more constant would make it more engaging.
- A little bit too hard. I tried a few times, seems like enough for a Ludum Dare game. I have no sense of how I did though. Being able to beat the game after a few tries should be doable, so people can get the full experience.
I didn't find it too difficult at all, cleared it on my first try with the laser over 300m away.
Music was nice, sfx didn't really go well with it (maybe I've just heard too many jam games using sfxr/bfxr)
I tried doing a pacifist run but it doesn't seem to be possible because the player hitbox is fat and some people spawn very close to the edge of the platforms. Even when I was trying to avoid people I still killed about 40 on my way up :')
:v: nice pixel art, fun entry pleasant to play
 platformer. I really enjoyed it
