SpaceCab by bobombe

[raw]
made by bobombe for LD 40 (COMPO)

LD40 ! Done with my strange motor based on SFML and/or Qt : https://github.com/Bobombe/MotorQtOrSFML Download SpaceCab.zip, unzip then play with arrows and space.

Some explications :

The goal is to make some money ! To do so, you must bring some pods to their planet (same color).

You lose if your power goes below 0. You lose power while driving and when you hit an other space car. You can make them leave the Hyperway by firing at them (Space bar).

The more pods you bring the slower you get, and the more power you lose.

The linux version hasn't been test on another computer than mine. It must lack Qt Libraries. Give me infos if you test it :D

A tutorial on what was going on or what I had to do would be awesome. Otherwise surprisingly fun!

Took me a minute to figure out what to do, but once I did, it was a lot of fun! I love how the little passengers follow your cab in particular. Nice job - I'd actually love to see a more polished release of this down the line!

@conorod Thanks, me too ... I might try to improve it in some time. I had a lot more Idea to add ...

As has been said already some kind of explanation about what to do would be helpful. That said it was actually pretty enjoyable. Cool concept.

I put some explanation in the description of this post.

Nice work getting something done; I really appreciate the silky smooth 60fps. A few words in the opening about your goals would go a long way to demystifying the game (if, like me, you skip over the blog post); but I figured it out eventually.

Cool idea. First try I ended up picking as many as I could. Second try I tried to be smarter about it. Nice game.

Nice, even if some (maybe very simple) sounds would have helped a lot! ;)

Nice work, this was really fun. It took me a while to figure out exactly what I had to do, so some short tutorial text would have been nice. It was also a little hard to see the brown against the black. Other than that, it was really good. I'd love to see a more polished version, I think it'd make a great mobile game.

Really fun little game! I liked the concept, it's perfect for some quick rounds when you need to kill time, I had that in mind when designing my game too, but really, good job!

I'd make the resolution changable or a bit smaller though, cause I have a 1280x720 monitor and can't see the whole game :(

@strelly Sorry you can't see everything, even if my laptop is only 15' I have a good resolution and the game felt small ^^. I will keep that in mind for future devs. Thanks

It took me a while to understand what's going on in this game, but that was because I was too lazy to read the description. I enjoyed the game, but maybe in some point I would have hoped to see it evolving (i.e. getting gradually harder). But anyway, the theme was nicely interpreted and I think the game has fresh approach to SHMUP genre.

Took me awhile to figure out what was going on but got it eventually :).

Nice work on doing a game in c++ too.

Nice game idea. Although i don't quite understand the pod drop off mechanic, it seems to only works sometime when you reach a planet and have pods of the same color? The game meets the theme really well. Some funny sound effect when crashing into other cars etc would have been a big plus tho!

Nice game, but I do have to agree that a short tutorial or some more info would help. Once I got the hang of it, it was fun to play. Thanks!

@oson Yes, you bring pods to their home planet, they don't want to go to another planet with other people of other colors (fucking racist^^).
For the sounds, I didn't get enough time to make a proper level, so sound effects ...

Interesting concept and the Other spaceships were really fun to dodge around. Could have done with some sound but I understand that you ran out of time on this one.

Great game for your first Ludum Dare thought! Congrats!

Took a minute or two to understand what was going on, once I did things got more fun though. The lack of time really shows with the absence of audio though, I suggest just throwing a few bfxr sound effects into your future jam games. They're super quick to make and are so much better than nothing at all. Anyhow, nice entry overall, good job.
