Vumpires: Night of the Bat-men by SeiferTim

[raw]
made by SeiferTim for LD 44 (JAM)

In Vumpires: Night of the Bat-men you are the sole survivor of an ancient curse who has to clear your town of a vumpire (umpire vampire) infestation.

A metaphor.

Controls

  • Left/Right or A/D: move
  • Z: Swing Bat
  • X: Jump
  • C: Throw Baseball

Gamepads might also work, too? Try waggling those buttons around and see what happens?

The theme gave us the idea for "Vampires" but, other than that, we didn't really utilize the theme. Oops.

Love the vumpire umpire running around sprite. Very cool Castlevania vibes.

Great fun. Hitting balls back at the enemies is very satisfying

Cool game. But the controls are a bit hard to get used to.

I like the graphics and sound, but the controls are very awkward. First of all, you have to use S/D to move left and right, instead of A/D like in the instructions. Also using z x and c is difficult while also using S/D. Character stops when swinging bat, which is annoying. Also the enemies attack far too fast, leaving no time to react. It seems i only got the enemies killed when they had already killed me and I had a little bit of invincibility

I did enjoy the game, and felt it was quite fun. However, I did run into a few moments here and there that felt like bad level design that caused the player to run into a monster. For instance, there's a part where you drop down without seeing what's down there. I ended up falling into monsters. My only other main complaint is that the controls weren't a/d, they were actually s/d, but that could be a problem on my end. I loved the idea, the graphics, and the audio design. Overall, I felt like this was a pretty good game.

Very nice platformer! Kicked my butt first time around. But it never felt unfair. The pixel-art is amazing!

Lol @ at that story. It's like Spacejam but baseball!

Nice graphics and sounds. Wish you could run a bit faster but the gameplay was still good. I don't know if it's just me, but it felt like the attack and jump buttons were reversed.

A polished game with a nice retro touch! Loved the fact you can send back a ball to an enemy!

The retro vibes are so totally on-point! All of the audio (that spooky baseball music!), intro, screen transitions etc are just awesome.

The controls do feel a bit awkward in practice (although it's not totally out of line with the era it's emulating =P). Also, as you mention, the theme isn't really integrated.

It *should* be "A" to move left, it's a typo in the code. Will fix ASAP.
Arrow keys should work though.
Sorry about that! (I blame staying up until 2am for Endgame :P)

The mechanics are great, I wish the controls were a bit less clunky. A platform mixed with baseball looks like a great original idea to develop futher, great entry overall

Fun game! I really like the intro and the level design is also pretty good, but the controls could be a little more responsive.

Really liked the play on words in the title. The ability to kill enemies with their own balls was really interesting

This game feels and plays like a Nintendo game. I'm very impressed by the graphics, gameplay, and cleverness of this game. The game can be tough just like those retro games too!

I love how you can collect baseballs to throw at the enemies and it appears in the scoreboard at the bottom. It feels like a lot of work really went into the details of this game and I definitely chuckled a few times at the humor.

Great name too!
