Temerarious by SynysterCola

[raw]
made by SynysterCola for LD 44 (JAM)

UPDATE: Taking down the Windows download due to a bug I cannot fix at this time. You can still play this game on itch.io via your browser!

Temerarious: Adjective meaning rashly or presumptuously daring. :sunglasses:

The Vivalockes are heretics who use their own Life Force to power their attacks. A risky practice that has huge payoffs in combat.

screen1.png

Join the Vivalocke Juniper Breaker as she takes off an adventure to save her brother (and give him a piece of her mind while she's at it!)

2019-04-29_1933.png

Every turn in combat - decide if you want to use powerful spells at the cost of your Life Force. Be careful - if your Life Force is too low, you can't use spells. Worse, if it hits 0, you will be knocked out. :scream:

Controls

  • Arrow Keys - Move around
  • Enter - Action
  • Esc - Menu
  • Shift - Hold while moving to dash

You can play this game directly on itch.io! You'll find the link to download the Windows executable there too.

I'm opting out of Graphics and Music/Audio because I'm using out of the box, pre-made assets. Thanks!

Neat RPGmaker game! Got lost in the cave so I gave up, but there's so much charm in it. Loving the story and the NPCs in the village.

Didn't get that far but there seem to be a lot of content to go through, part of it is of course courtesy of RPG maker but still I almost forgot it's a LD game :) More combat and go crazy with the life mechanic would be my feedback.

Great job on this!
I went all the way through, and it was a great experience. Loved the music going into battle, and that pun at the end is great XP

That's an insane amount of content you packed into just 72 hours of development! First time playing an RPG Maker game. Enjoyed it!

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone!

@jedineeson Thank you! I sort of made it up as I designed the game xD

@thesomeonexd - Sorry you got lost in the cave! I considered adding a minimap to the game, but decided to finish everything else up. The conversation in the cave had a subtle hint on how to make it through!

@listonos Thanks! Using RPG Maker allowed me to really flesh out the game. I considered another boss battle and a few other classes/mechanics around life energy, but sadly I ran out of time.

@torculus Appreciate the feedback! I wanted to make the combat challenging but still fun.

@mrpiedpiper Thanks for playing it all the way! The music was out of the box so I couldn't have audio voted on. Glad you liked that pun :)

@ejmejm Hahaha I was honestly worried it wasn't enough content! But I was able to get so much done because of RPG Maker.

@ryan-westby Thank you! FFX is probably tied with Octopath Traveler for favorite battle system!

@rakowu Thank you! I wanted to make sure the intro was cool!

@justuspan Thanks!

You really wanted me to treat this like another shitty RPG Maker game by using those overused assets, you know?
Thank me I actually played the thing and watched it streamed and I found that it has some nice mechanics and really nice story. This would really be better with some custom assets!

@patrenaud Thanks! It seemed like it was a common practice to have timelapse videos. It's pretty neat to rewatch the work I did. I can even pinpoint the times I was freaking out or cursing up a storm.

Really nice job. Probably the best rpg maker LD game ive seen in a while. I can really tell you put a ton of effort into it.

Honestly, I do not like RPG-maker games. They are all the same.

In general, very high quality made.
