2-3-D-Endless-Ego-Shooter by timbs

[raw]
made by timbs for LD 41 (COMPO)

The game-play is simple: Doge the bombs and kill the enemys, clue: you play in side and front view at once. Left-side: Side view: Doge the bombs. Right-side: Front view shoot enemy to prevent them from reaching you.

The game-goal is get the highest score. Therefore you need to surrive as long as possible and shoot as much enemys as possible.

This is a Compo entry, had no time left to make game sounds. The game was coded in Java using LubGdx as framework, therefore I will also be porting the game to Android in the future. Source Code: (Core LibGdx Project on GitHub). ezgif.com-resize.gif

Good concept, fits theme very well. I think the games difficulty should crank up a bit faster as it is really easy at first.

This game is very fun. I love the art. It's a bit too easy though. For me at least maybe I just didn't play enough.

A great idea, execution could heve needed a bit polish. Both own and enemy hitboxes should be a bit bigger, also bullets and reloading to prevent just clicking through, also some link between movement and accuracy in the shooting would be nice. The graphics were pleasant to look at and the game itself was very decent.

Great concept, I like the hand-made art giving a very particular style to your game, the two screens bring an interesting feeling, the game would deserve a bit more polish to make a more solid entry, especially on the entry menu and controls, however, the time constraint is (very) strong, especially in compo mode, great job, keep up the good work

I really liked the aesthetic, it was almost like playing an old style painting, which I found very cool!

Cool idea timbs and interesting choice for tools also. Wow I see you hand drew all of the frames by hand, that's a lot of work definitely props for that! Only if I could split my vision to 2 easier I would not struggle with the game on higher difficulty, maybe in further development they could be comined somehow? Nice work man!

Thanks for all the feedback! @nidup yes it definitely needs a few more animations and polishing; I might do that in the course of next month. @Aarre Entertainment yes hitboxes are a bit off. Also I highered some of the spawn rates to make it more difficult @T8kk @Bitten Toast Games @creepyounguy : https://timbs.itch.io/23d-endless-ego-shooter
And everyone: Thanks for playing!

Like the art style!Would be interesting if you moving on the left screen actually controlled the scope on the right side

Excellent job merging the genres, had a lot of fun with it. Only wish that there were sounds and effects when you kill things or get hurt. Hard to tell what was going on without directly looking at em.

Nice hand drawn animations. Very spooky.

Original concept, artstyle and could work very well as a larger game. Too bad the difficulty doesn't ramp up enough and you can smash that left mouse button to clear the right screen.
Theme and innovation get my 5's! Well done!

Nice idea and the controls worked well (was afraid of another bind-bending control system). Good work!

"I once had a dream like this.
Overwhelmed by the creeping shadows, I fought with all my will.
But then I realized that they were just craving my flesh.
The fear subdued as I gave them permission to consume my limbs. The pain would surely clean my spirit.
Yet, annoyed by my unwelcoming taste, they screamed and then tried to kill me. Then I woke up.
Sometimes I still fall asleep, wondering if I shall return there, always making sure not to forget the spices."

Nice idea! I think I would have never thought in a mechanic like that. The right side is a little bit unbalanced, but I have really enjoyed the experience! Good game!

Nice work. I found it a little hard having to split my attention - but I guess that's the idea. The graphics are good (animations is something I very rarely have time to do in my LD games).

The main problem I had was accuracy - on the right side it seemed like it was only checking the exact pixel the mouse was on for shooting the guys? There were a few times I was sure the middle part of the crosshair was over one of them and I shot but they didn't die. Also on the left side - though this seemed to my advantage - is I'm sure there were a few times that I was in the shadow of the bomb but it didn't hurt me. Other than that (and in the grand scheme of things, those are pretty minor complaints, I just like to suggest improvements where I can) it was good.

That was a pretty cool entry!

At the beggining the controls are a little confusing because it's hard to handle your up-down movement at the same time you are shooting. But by the way, that it is where the magic of your game is so... good job! :)

I get hooked with your gameplay and I have to say that I like how you make the animations.

Well done! Hope we see in the next ludum dares!

I loved the painterly style and the anxiety-inducing split gameplay fields. :D Very innovative, almost surreal!
