Botken: Assault and Battery by Toone

Overview
A 1v1 fighting game built around the theme “Running out of power”. Players battle it out as 2 RC Bots, running on unfortunately tiny batteries. To win Botken, you must push your opponent off the edge of the arena and get them plugged. No HP, no timers: Botken is about dominating the arena, managing your power and showing the world what a tin-can can do!

How To Play
The Bots always move forward automatically, and each has 4 inputs (Player 1 on the left uses WASD, and Player 2 on the right uses the Arrow Keys):
- W / Up - for a High Attack
- S / Down - for a Low Attack
- D / Left - for a Dash Attack
- A / Right - for a Backdash
Watch your opponent and react with the right move to inch them closer to the plug, or go full aggro and smash them into it.
Gameplay Subtleties
Bot Power Knockback
The power you have in store determines how far you are going to fly off when hit by an attack. The less power in store, the further the distance you’re knocked back! Note that performing attacks costs a bit of energy, but getting hit costs more.
When running completely out of energy, the Bot enters recovery mode, regenerating its power over the course of a few seconds. It cannot act while doing so; it is our version of a “Stun”. Pro-tip: Hitting an opponent in recovery mode will stop the recovery at the amount it is at the moment they get hit.
Combo Counter
The higher the current combo, the more Power is drained when landing a hit on the opponent.
The combo counter increases for every hit a player lands without getting hit in return, and drops to 0 whenever the other player starts his own combo streak.
Hit fast, hit hard, hit often!

Very good job! Congratulations!
The art design on your game was awesome, and combined with a fluid gameplay. :)
I only wish there would be a downloadable version to keep it to play offline.
The art is amazing and the overall atmosphere is great.
There's great potential in this one, great job!
+++ Gorgeious graphics and special effects. I also liked the colour palettes for the fighters.
++ That announcer! Not the best announcer but remarkable for a Ludum Dare game.
+++ The game had combos. I'm biased towards combos.
+++ The music fit the mood of the game to a T. Or an I. Or S. Whatever would clear those four lines.
-- I found nothing wrong with the game.
I would play more of this if it wasn't for those other meddling entries. Thanks for the great game.
I was going to say it was too easy because I won immediately by button mashing, then realized I was playing a 2p game with 1p :-P. You should update this with some enemy AI for single-player.
The graphics. The gameplay is a little simplistic but it works. Good use of the theme.
Also, thank you so much for your review on https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/hamster-habits. You were the first one that had a beatiful retrospective with similar thoughts i had when making the game. That was very rewarding.
Please play, rate and comment our game aswell:

Fun game and cool concept, artistically really impressive! I like the details put into this. (for instance the blurred background and bokeh effect).
This is a really solid game concept and take on the theme!
Kudos and great job guys!
Great Job!
Good RPS system between the 3 different attacks. Mindgames, ho!
Can't quite tell the usefulness of backdash. It theoretically seems quick enough to whiff punish the low and dash attack from max range, but I'd love to see how the devs utilized this since it's scary to back yourself closer to your plug.
Good pacing of the game. Gives you enough time to think about what the opponent will do next and how to counter.
I definitely can tell the game will be fun once I can find another person to play with, nice work.
