Sacrifices must be made...

king_game.gif

You are King Cubic III, emperor of the holy dices. You have a long journey through the dark and dangerous dungeon. In order to avoid dying by yourself, you can sacrifice your loyal cubic servants.

Release information - The long bug list

  • The game might have bad performance on your pc, because of no optimizations and no ingame options.
  • Navigation for servants won't work properly in some cases. They can easily be blocked or just don't move.
  • Spawning too many servants, without moving them, will let them get stuck!
  • Platforms at the end of the game sometimes have bad behavior (possibly, you are not able to the finish the game)
  • Glitchy physics on gravestones.

The servants were a bit hard to control (esp when they jump), but despite that I really liked ordering them around. I really like the overall concept, and it's really pretty looking to boot!

@hydezeke thanks for feedback. Ýeah, bad servants moving is a well known problem 🙃

Is the HTML version not working well? I am not rating because I wasn't able to control the servants.
You can't see the mouse when the HTML window is selected, and even when I was able to select a servant I didn't know how to make it move.

The web build didn't work for me, the console was spamming something about a sizing change.
I'm confused as to why you put a link to a web build here, but then say there that the web build isn't supported.

Well, the HTML version worked on three different systems in our team. If more people have problems I will take it down.
What browsers do you use?
After testing again: Don't let the mouse be captured from the window. Press escape, most time it helps.

@staxx6 I tried it again and I was able to get it to run this time, but there are definitely issues with input. I got keyboard to work by clicking on it but it was hiding my mouse, when I hit escape to use my mouse keyboard stopped working. Im using chrome.
Here is the bug in console

you might be able to fix it by changing itch resolution settings? maybe add a fullscreen option?

@niborious I set the fullscreen option on. Hope it helps.
For the input don't know for now. Needs more investigation.

In a first time I was confused by controls but I adapted. Interesting idea with a smart subtext.

nice game a controls screen ingame would have been a nice touch or a tutorial also would be really good with some sound effects. aside from that it's a fun game

@darkshinobi100 @katamary Yeah, a HUD with controlls would be nice. Currently there is only the help menu in the title screen.

Cool entry! Like the idea and the concept a lot. However, I think there are some issues with how the controls are implemented which makes it frustrating to play the game (it feels like you are working against the controls). The game itself seems a bit buggy as well (some minior issues here and there). Overall, a big plus for trying to doing something really cool and innovative, minus for the implementation (and maybe the reason for the shaky parts were due to the time constraint). Thanks!

@mambojambo Thanks for the feedback. And yes, the bugs and bad controls are product of little time.

Not a casual control, but can be solved. good one game, want more levels

Interesting concept, I will be forever remembered in the Cube Kingdom as King Cubic III, the Peasant Slayer  Controls were a bit confusing at first, but once grasped it works well. Found a fun "bug": if you position your king in the path of a servant you will block his way... but he will continue trying to go that way. So if you block several and then move, of they go all together! Cool stuff, congrats on the entry!

Interesting game, but it needs more levels. I also didn't realize you can jump with space as it isn't mentioned in the controls. That made me take quite some time on the gap with spikes.

@oceanosaurus thanks for the comment. It's not a bug it's a feature!

@reimari You are right, will add it. Thanks!

Web version worked fine for me. Overall I think this would be a fun game with some additional levels. The only main changes I can see are that the right click shouldn't be used to command servants and move the camera, maybe hold middle mouse button to move the camera would work.

@wevel ... ... ... srsly nobody in our team thought of that. This would greatly improve the controls. Such an easy solution. Thank you!

Nice game! I would appreciate being able to move the camera vertically as well, to make it easier to look around and select/move servants. With a bit more time to flesh out the mechanics and controls, I think this would be a really interesting puzzle/platformer

Loved the little cube dudes! I liked the movement of the King and even though the servants were kinda derpy I feel like that was the intension lol XD anyway, the graphics were dope and overall I had a blast with this one. Only complaint is the lack of audio but still a solid little game!

@boundtotheearth Changed the cam in new release and added a free looking cam.
And @conduit Thanks for the comment!

Eventually finished the game after a bit of frustration and tons of bugs. The very first time I died because I jumped in the pit in the first room, then the portcullis wouldn't open. I then had to eventually restart the game because I was in a state where no matter what I put on the trigger, the door was stuck half-open.

Also hit another bug in the stair-step-down trigger area where one of the platforms just flew up to an unreachable height and I had to restart the game all over again.

Finally, after finishing the game, clicking on Settings pulled this up.

That said, bugs are bugs and this is LD! You guys created a solid 3D game, with a really cool premise, and with nice graphics. I enjoyed the aesthetic and the gameplay, even if it was a bit confusing how high the King could actually jump. I'd play the heck out of this if there were more :)

Lack of audio would've gone a long way to setting a great mood.

@aurel Thank you for the comment. The door and platforms origin from the same bug. Even after LD with some hours more I couldn't fix this... It's super annoying, yes. Menu bug is also known but I think it's not critical as other bugs. :)
The feature for this game (idea) is unknown. We like the game but there are also a lot of bad gameplay aspects which needs to be fixed.
