B.E.A.S.T.S is a 2-player game that combines the city destroyer genre with the city building genre!

In B.E.A.S.T.S your aim is to become mayor of the city by building up as many towers as you can before your opponent. Break Everything And Stack Towering Structures to create your own city!

  • Destroy buildings for parts and stack them to gain city points. Taller structures score more points.
  • Destroy or capture your opponent's buildings by stacking over theirs to make them lose points.

Great job! The art is amazing for the time limit! I love the blocky pixel look since it works perfect for the city-building theme.

The controls were a little difficult to understand at the beginning. It was unclear to us that we had to use the same key to destroy the buildings and can only pick up the darkened blocks with color indicators. I also thought you had to build on your beginning square, but it turns out you get points anywhere! But once we got the hang of it, we had no problems with the controls. I also liked that we can change the controls in Settings.

I think it may be a good idea to lengthen each round's time limit to force the players to really go at each other. We spent much of the game quietly building away in our respective corners. It's really way more fun to destroy and steal the opponent's blocks!

The idea is fun, and I loved Roofing :D I can see this being really competitive with 4 players!

The mechanics are very good. It was tricky to figure out at the beginning, but then it's really simple and fun.

This would be a great party game, where everyone takes turns battling it out! I can see a lot of VS fun in this little gem. Nice!

I played it 10 minutes ago and it was working, but now it's not working properly - looks like the ground is now above us (windows Firefox). It was a lot of fun when it worked correctly and the concept is definitely great!

great game: I love the "rampage" inspiration.

Played alone and I think that this game could use a simple single player mode where you just play for the score.

I love the graphics. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone to play with but its still pretty fun breaking and building skyscrapers. When you box in the opponent full of building and lay one on him he starts spazzing out and gets stuck, not sure if it's intentional. Overall I think its a fun game and would be great with a single player

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

@lyxil We'll try to flesh out the instructions more to make it clear that breaking/building uses the same key.

@weekend-panda Thanks for playing our game! I'm sorry you ran into the bug, did this happen as soon as the game started? Did restarting the game fix it?

@kromeboy We're planning to add a single player mode with an AI in the post-game build; keep an eye out!

@noumenus Oops, that's definitely a collision bug, we'll try to address it. Thanks for playing!

We tried restarting, but no, that didn't fix it. It did happen right away, yep.

This was great! I wish I had a second player to play this with, so instead I just tried to make the tallest tower I could by making other smaller towers to jump off to reach the top of my big tower. I think I managed to get 8 or 9 high before time ran out!

Great sound and graphics. I enjoyed the whole theme and mood. I agree that city destroying and city building are pretty incompatible. I also laughed at becoming the mayor at the end of the game! :)

It is one of the most polished games I've played so far. Cool looking and fun to play :nerd:

And I always liked the idea of calling a monster and other disasters in SimCity once the town is built

You guys know how to do your job together. The game is super polished. Unfortunately I didn't have a second player to clean the mess I made. You got a new follower on itch.io

Great game! I love the rampage meets city builder idea. The art is great. I felt like movement could have been faster even with the sprinting. I also think controllers would be nicer for the movement here rather than two people on a single keyboard, but game jam. Loved it.

Love how you can keep going after end game. Great looking and great playing. A lot of nudging and elbowing on the keyboard. Put this on Switch! Fabulous job. Thanks for the game!

Played this one with my girlfriend, we liked the idea. What we missed was to maybe speed up the pace of the game a tiny bit or especially when the music starts playing faster as well. Would of been great to have some power ups as well or some stronger attacks that would destroy a larger area. But overall for a LD game it turned out nice and fun to play.

although i liked the concept the game just felt like it was missing something and got repetitive - perhaps some upgrades or pickups - and the controls felt awkward - still i was fun - nice game

OMG. My daughter and I just played two games back to back. The first game was figuring it out... by round two IT WAS FULL ON MONSTRO-CITY (get it?). This was super duper fun. I loved how the monsters "felt" like angry little kids, begrudgingly block building and punching out buildings BECAUSE BODY CHEMICALS.

Also, setting up controls was super duper easy. STOLEN. 🏙️🥊🌠
