Tony Hawk's Hatchback Stunt Simulator: Ghost Protocol

This game is probably the greatest game that has ever gamed in a game, with the greatest gameplay and the greatest art and the greatest greatness. Complete with great things, like: * Greatly broken vehicle physics * A greatly designed level that is great fun to fail to navigate around in * A great trick system (approved by the great Tony Hawk himself) that rewards you for performing great vehicle stunts * A great server that sends you the greatest ghosts from other players to impede your own great play and sends your great ghosts to others * A great many number of unlockable cars, including great hatchbacks, of course * A great ghost protocol (GhostProtocol.cs) that records an infinite number of ghosts as you play and replays them in your level, in a great way

Here's how you play this great game:

Not the easiest to control, but was a chaotically good time once I had several ghosts driving around!

Controls are a little difficult, especially with the camera resetting to pointing down when the camera hits the floor. Aside from that it was good fun, I managed to launch out of the side of the map and then another side and another until I hit warp speed ^^

This game is SOOOO dumb. So dumb.

I love it :) I was laughing out loud before hitting play, from the title alone.

The car was a little tough to control, but the trick system was impressive. I had a lot of fun with this game and it made me genuinely laugh. Solid entry.

I have to try a lot of time to control the vehicle but once taken in hand I had fun to see all my previous car do anything!
The idea is nice but the decor makes the control quite difficult.

Good job

I was severely disappointing by the marketing of this game, advertising it as the worst game, yet it isn't. What a scam!
I even had to rate this game a 5 overall, gotta despise these developers more then EA!

I always wanted to break dance with a car haha.

It is quite hard to steer the vehicles and accelerate but it was quite fun to play it too. I needed that tank and then I smashed around the city!

The map is nicely detailed, but exploration is hampered by the slow turning speed. Some of the ramps are also impossible to drive onto (the one in the sci-fi themed area, for example).
Also, I wanted more cryptic names for the car tricks.
Overall, I enjoyed my time with THHSS:GP.

Difficult to control in any sensible way, but fun to just mess around with, flipping through the air like a lunatic!

This is truely amazing. Reminds me of some works from Sos.
Also reminds me of this game : http://sandwichpuissant.net/voiture/

It's awesome. It feels a bit weird that the car stop directly when you stop driving.

I loved it.

I wanted to post a review that a coworker made, because it's hilarious. "I found the Tank, and now my mission is at an end. The all-encompassing militarization of the territory is complete. What was once an unassuming city has been transformed into a tank-strewn hellscape, its sole remaining hulking inhabitants forever doomed to thrash about in a scant few fleeting moments until their deaths. Constant, inexorable death. The city's chokepoints are congested to the point of being effectively unable to welcome new matter without condemning it to immediate immolation. The ubiquitous music, once meant to inspire levity, has devolved into an ironic soundtrack of despair, its lilting tones scarcely audible against an unholy cacophony of explosions and grinding metal. God has forgotten this place. I am become death."

Loved the concept and the control of flying around doing tricks. the ska tony hawk music made me laugh as well. I was excited to see the ghost idea as well cause that made this really unique. I think this is something that would be really fun and interesting if it were expanded upon. My only gripe is that the web version feels pretty laggy and I wish i could play a standalone executable version of the game.

@jsqrs Your wish is my command. See standalone builds above. They're untested but should work.

nice controls and the setting was ok. Sometimes it is hard that the car stops imediatelly. Something you should continue to work on. Nice concept

The turning speed is a bit off, but apart from that the game is really nice.

Really fun idea! The more I die, the more chaotic it gets. This doesn't feel like a punishment though, because there are a lot of fun interactions that result from crashing into a prior life. I figured out I could just speed along a road and that the map looped, so I did that a few times. Then in future lives I would get T-boned by a speeding bus occasionally. The music and sfx add a lot to the tone. It feels like Crazy Taxi in that regard.

Really nice! I would have love to have a better camera and control of the car but it also participated in creating totally crazy tricks :D

Very cool concept! Love the idea of having more ghosts when dying a lot. The graphics are really cool, love the low poly style. The music is also perfect for a Tony Hawk clone ;). The car was really hard to steer, it didn't always feel like I was having control over it. A very cool idea nonetheless!

Well done!

Pretty interesting game. I liked the concept of the fact that you had to explode the car to get points. It was a fun game

Even though the controls are difficult to master, the game is really fun with an environment which is fun to explore and to play with. Ghosts are cool too. I love that type of asynchronous multiplayer game !

This is pretty fun. It's difficult to figure out what's going on at first, but after a while I was pirouetting with tanks across town.
I wish I could have seen the total spins I made at times rather than just getting several 360 spins in a row, but it's understandable.

The wonky physics fit with the SFX and music very well. It was hard to tell exactly what would cause me to explode, but eventually you figure out what DOESN't make you explode.

Very hard to just drive normally. But that's not the point! Fun game, good work.

Haha it's been a long time without broken physics in sandbox, always a pleasure to play! Your music is particularily apropriated to the game. I would love to have the tricks enabled only while air-born, it would make for a less exploitable scoring system... I literally put my beer on the keyboard's left key to watch it score points for me =)

Cool beans! The map-wrapping is a super nice addition and the music fits really nicely.
My main gripe would be the camera, especially because it would change by itself and be all over the place. Either all in with the auto-camera or let me as a player set the angle without changing it to something completely different in a few frames. Also the reverse is wicked slow.

@SecretPocketCat Thanks for the feedback! Totally good point about the camera. In a post-LD, I made it totally automatic, but it still kinda sucks. If you have any implementation suggestions on how to make a camera feel good in a game as zany as this, I'd love to hear it. I'm not the most experienced with 3D games, so spent way too long on even this bad of a camera.

@sgadrat Thanks for the feedback! Agreed, the trick system is super gameable right now. We noticed the best way to make a high score (easily) is to get on a tall building and then breakdance. It scores you periodically for being high in the air and also for the spins. In our debug games we got hundreds of thousands of points doing so. If we build the game out more this will definitely be a point for improvement.
