Dandelion Rush by Raphael Huot

[raw]
made by Raphael Huot for LD 40 (COMPO)

Here's my entry for the LUDUM DARE 40! This was my first Ludum Dare and for that matter my first game jam ever :)

Even though I wish the theme (The more you have, the worst it gets) was more present in my core gameplay, I had a blast doing this and I'm pretty happy with the results!

Any feedback on this would be much appreciated as I am here to learn :D

Hope you guys like it,

A cutesy platformer, would work as a mobile game. I don't see how it involves the theme but I still enjoyed it.

The flower spawning sometime took awhile to make something I could actually jump to. Other than that, pretty neat lil game.

Felt like I got stuck in unwinnable situations too often, but like the idea, making the platforms collidable was a clever way to do the "more is worse" theme

First i can confirm that this game runs under Wine on Lubuntu :P
I like the Graphics and the Music!
Its a classic game in a new light!

The graphics in this were really nice. My one suggestion is, I feel like more could be done to space out the spawns. It felt like I often eventually lost because flowers spawned in an unbeatable pattern. Allowing you to jump through the flowers above you and land on them might help alleviate this somewhat too.

This game was incredibly fun!

There's not many LD games I go back to a dozen times to try again and again but your high difficulty and the quick restart made it so easy to just keep playing.

Really really nice job, my highest 'fun' rated game so far!

Music was good, SFX were non existent but really didn't feel missed, everything just worked.

First off congrats on your first game jam! The controls were a little slippy which made it hard to stay on the dandelions. I like the use of the theme and the music was good as well. You did a really good job on the art.

Very modest game, I like the atmosphere and decent visual style. Jumping/movement/controls could be more enjoyable, but if it's a part of the difficulty so ok :)

Very difficult at the beggining, but gets easier when you learn the controls. Sometimes the other flowers appeared with a much delay, which made it harder and boring to wait for them to spawn. The graphics are awesome, the pixel art is great! Good job!!!

Pretty fun idea, and tbh it incorporates the theme really well. Thing is it's really harder when it's more, but u have an actual way to make a comeback so it's great. The randoming algorithm seems to the biggest problem here, but during jam you don't really have time to polish it and that's understandable. Things to consider are adjusting it so you can't lose due to not having any chance, and maybe platforms should spawn a bit faster. Graphics are ok, effect of dying was pretty cool tho. Good job on your first entry!

My best altitude is 35 so far. :blossom:

I think you can solve 'randomness issue' simply by allowing to jump through flowers from the below (or a special flower type for this?).

For some reason this game reminds me good ol' days playing Icy Tower, and I loved that game.

Here is my playtest:

Cute! Especially the animations.

The theme definitely applies here in how waiting too long can cause obstacle flowers to spawn, oof!
