"Running" out of "Space"

Someone had to do it. And I did.

You start on Earth.

LD422018-08-1410-43-39.png

As you reach higher speeds, you can launch youself into sky.

Start "flying"

A game by Stefan Uhlenberg, made completely from scratch in 72h for Ludum Dare 42. All nubers, sizes, speeds are very accurate RL values.

Controls

Earth

Space = Jump

Air and Space

W / Up = Up S / Down = Down

How to play

Start on Earth and collect coins. With these coins, buy upgrades which increase your speed.

The upgrade on the left increases your speed for coins. The upgrades in the middle use milestone-points you get for distance. The upper one doubles your speed, the lower one doubles the value of the coins.

This way you need to get fast enough to eventually leave the observable universe.

This is dumb

Nice game! Really puts the size of our human lives and our planet into perspective.
Ps: And you made the Earth flat because of course you had to..

@edgelord yeah, sorry. Gamemaker Desktop license doesn't allow exporting in HTML5. I could export for mac, if i had a mac device. But I dont.

Very nice game. I want to reach out of the Milky Way now (I only reach 5 Light Years ;( )

I like the unusual interpretation of the the theme and think the gameplay and presentation is fun.
But I was a bit confused about how some of the upgrades worked, I never quite understood what allowed me to be the two in the middle, and I only seemed to use coins for that one on the left.

Numbers going up! I hate and love it at the same time xD It took me very long to leave the milky way. After seeing the distance to leave space I quit :D well done! And perfect usage of the theme!

Actually this is exactly the first thing I thought about when I saw the LD 42 Theme. Well made, although a bit lengthy in the end. I played through it, but there were some things that itched me:
- because of its length, some additional music tracks would improve the game.
- the last stage was almost the whole time just black, maybe add some graphics here too, because they were really good in the earlier stages
- galaxy and universe stage were both very hard in the beginning, I thought the game was broken, because the counter did not go up for minutes.
- was a bit disappointed by the end screen...

This is too good! I didn't think that I would have so much fun with this concept. The grafics are really nice and it's very satisfing to see the numbers go up. Great job!

@matzetoni Thanks! Yeah I wanted to add a lot more there. Had no time left, end screen was done in the last minutes ^^ I will keep working on it though. I fixed the empty space. There were stars but they were too fast so I just changed a number :)

Pretty fun at the beginning, although it gets pretty boring and repetitive later on. Essentially a little bit more complex clicker game. Controls feel a tad too floaty.

Nice game, the onlly problem is that the space stage is too long. I laughed a loot with the flat earth.

Thanks for sharing your game with my stream! I really enjoyed the pixel art! Some tooltips for the upgrades would be great, as they weren't entirely intuitive. In case you want a link to the vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297479036?t=11m57s
