Robot Altar by BoopsGames

[raw]
made by BoopsGames for LD 43 (JAM)

Get the Jewel to the terminal at the expense of your robot helpers!

I apologize in advance for the difficulty. First thing I'd change about the game is have simpler levels at first to learn the ropes.

robotaltargameplay.gif

A physics, breakable terrain puzzle game inspired by Lemmings, King Arthur's World, and Worms.

Was going for Compo (went totally solo this time) but I'm too much of a perfectionist and the physics took a long time. So the graphics are still placeholder and there's no audio. Hope you enjoy!

INSTRUCTION:

Get the yellow jewel into the yellow terminal

Get anything into the blue terminal and it converts into scrap (junk balls yield a lot of scrap)

Some abilities take scrap, use sparingly!

CONTROLS:

Mouse - LB- select, RB - scroll camera

Space bar: Restart

P: Skip level (there are only 5)

NOTE for Mac users: After downloading, move the .app file out of the downloads folder or you may get an error trying to open it.

Very nice little robot puzzle game! The graphics feel nostalgic. I would've like a little bit more instructions, but once I figured it out it was kind of relaxing to try to solve the game. A couple of sound effects would've made this come even more alive. Great game :)

Every game with destructible terrain is a good game, I like it! As @meijerson said, the graphics feel nostalgic. Wonderful. You should add some music / sound effects and the experience would be even better. Good luck, I hope to see you in the next jam. Have a nice day. // @dudum-lare from @liquidbrain

The movement controls are kinda fiddly. I would recommend putting a dedicated "stop" button on the UI (or even adding keyboard controls) to make it easier to stop a robot near a wall, because right now it turns around and the button that WOULD have stopped it now makes it turn around again.

But overall, great game!

Very good. I like art style and game idea. Also, I like how robots flying when you shoot.
But It will be great if there will be a shortcuts. I'm a keyboard geek so...

Didn't quite get the game. Things moved a bit slow for me to figure things out. Laughed out loud when I drove the bus over the blue thing and it jumped. Twice. High! xD

Really nice artwork and great mechanic idea!
Would be nice to have less steep learning curve. The first level took me a while to figure out, and the second level took me a really long time! (maybe I'm just really bad at this game).

Congrats for the result, i hope you had some fun during the jam! Love the simplistic design. I only had some problem with the difficulty early on.

Very challenging but very fun, really had to think for some of these. Also thought some of the bouncy physics were hilarious (whether or not it was intended to have the car fly off at a million miles per hour when it hits the blue at certain angles). Always love to see puzzle games in jams and this is up there in the most fun I've had with a jam game! Fantastic!

That's a fun game ! The destructible terrain is pretty cool.
The only main flaws are some of the graphism that aren't totally explicit (why a blue terrain make things bounce ?)

Beside that, it's a cool puzzle game !

Nice game. I found the controls a bit confusing, but the concept was really fun. I like the art style. Had a blast. Thanks!

Robots rule the world!
Very nice entry. Art is some sort special but the gameplay is really great.
You also have to use your brains not only skill which is even better.

This is so incredibly cool. I underestimated this severely when I first popped it open due to the appearance, but this is such neat puzzle design, interesting mechanics, and surprisingly deep interactions. I just about lost it when I noticed you could stack up minions carrying each other! I hope I get some time to come back to this because I know there's more content I haven't gotten to. The main thing I found myself wanting was some solid keyboard controls - the mouse controls were really fiddly, and I'd be much more comfortable with the keyboard. Seriously though, this is something special! Nicely done!

Fun and tough puzzles. I really liked it. There is another comment mentioning keyboard controls which I will second. At least a hot key that lets you toggle between robots and the van. For me that would help the game flow. Great job overall.

I always loved the worms games. This one reminded me so much of it and I really enjoyed playing it. I loved the puzzles and the overall feel of the game. Well done

This is a great little puzzle game! I quite liked the art style and game concept. Only suggestion is that mechanics are introduced too rapidly. I feel like there should have been a couple more smaller levels which gradually built on the mechanics, as I found that the first level made me have to learn too many things at once. Also, some game mechanics could be telegraphed a bit better. But overall, this is a fantastic entry! Good work, keep it up! :)
