Shield Mates by Jacksendary

[raw]
made by Jacksendary for LD 44 (JAM)

This game was made at nordic game jam (NGJ) 2019 and since the game could kinda also match the theme of LD44, I decided to polish a very few things and add a few things here and there. The game is meant to be some what challenging, and the controls were originally designed to fit a nes/snes controller, but any controller should work. The take on the theme is that your shield have health, but it also heal you to say in it, but staying too long and it may deplete.

Take on the challenge alone, or work together with a friend, to protect yourself and your shield from the evil alien robots. Collect the alien juice that they drop when killed and return it to the shield to repair it. While under the shield your health is being restored, but be careful you can damage your own shield!

If you manage to survive till the end of the wave, run and hide under the shield in hope that the shield has enough juice to withstand the final laser blast.

CONTROLS:

Left Joystick/WASD (move/aim), B/Space (jump), A/Left shift (shoot)

Additional notes:

move down to drop from a ledge Only player one can play using the keyboard

The controls for keyboard could be improved because jumping and shooting all with one hand is not very comfortable. The rest of the game is very polished, it would be cool to see some more powerups or different enemies.

Yeah, keyboard controls are not very good and this kinda ruins the experience. The shooting does feel powerful and the sounds are cool, but the controls are hard.

I like the graphics of the game. But keyboard controls for aiming AND moving make the game really hard to play.

The game's controls are kind of klunky, but the graphics more than make up for it.
