Heal Zone by Skylark721

[raw]
made by Skylark721 for LD 44 (JAM)

Heal Zone is a simple top down shooter.
This game was made in 9 hours. I had been working on another game for 2 days and I couldn't make it into the compo. I ended up scrapping that project since it wasn't really fun. And that's where Heal Zone comes in.

This is my first Ludum Dare entry and the first game I really committed to. I wish I had started working on this from the beginning so I could have polished it. Perhaps next Ludum Dare.

Though simplistic, the game is really fun to play !!
Good job!
Weird things start to append when you shoot too close to you XD

@pepnou Haha, thanks for the feedback! :) Yeah I noticed that bug too but I was so close to the deadline and couldn't fix it in time.

The game is very reminiscent of retro style. I really like these games!

Core of the game, and enemy bouncing physics are greato, but I'd change the balance of upgrades. After maxing them both out, you can just spam in the middle and survive for eternity. Nice game though!

The gameplay is there for sure! I like collisions based on physics.

I reached 3000+ score easly, becouse after max upgrades you are unbeatable.

More enemies with more mass and different color will upgrade gameplay a lot!

@ninjacatz Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it!

@memel06 Wow, thank you! That's very generous. When I submitted this, I was so worried, didn't think anyone would like it.

@mrdrakert Thank you for playing! And I agree about what you said, I wish I had started working on this earlier.

@jestemstefan Thanks for playing my game and your feedback! :)

Simple arcade with physics-related mechanic. I like the way cubes change their direction when shot, not just disapear. =) The game would benefit from more balance, I guess. The visual style and sound are great! Congratulations on your first entry! :D

For a 9-hour game this is pretty solid. Shooting feeling was pretty satisfying though upgrades ended quick.

Also thanks for the feedback on my game, I've fixed some bugs and collisions, and after thinking it over I made attack not stop moving. So now if you want you can play it again and enjoy dialogues to fullest :3

I had fun with this game! This is a good entry given the time you had to create it. Maybe you should have added the price of the upgrades so the player doesn't accidentally commit suicide :D. Also, maybe the difficulty could increase exponentially passed the 2000-3000 score mark so it becomes really really challenging to get an high score.

Simple and fun game. However, it becomes too easy after maxing out both upgrades.

One issue, the score doesn't reset after restarting.

Cool game, really fun! I do agree with @mrdrakert though, it becomes far too easy once you max out your upgrades...

@keyurrana Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! :) I thought I had fixed the score bug, apparently not, haha! I fixed the WebGL version, should be ok now.

Thank you everyone else who has commented so far. :)

Simple and satisfying core loop. Although you become powerful with maxed out upgrades, so the enemies can’t come even close. Some ideas for enemy variation: big ones that can take more damage, enemies that move in a sine motion towards the player and enemies that split to multiple small enemies when they die.

I also made my game in about 9 hours. Spend Friday night and all Saturday on ideas that had to be scrapped, Sunday redoing it, then I had to work on Monday so I was rushed afterwards to complete and submit.

Can't play without a Mac or Web build. I like the concept though. The graphics look simple but effective.
Maybe I'll come back if I get an opportunity to use a PC soon.

@nebrazif @ristoretto Thanks for playing, I appreciate the feedback!
@shaolin-dave Oh I added WebGL support yesterday on itch.io. I just didn't think to update the description here.

Simple, yet fun concept. Kind of wish that there was a bit more though, as the game ends much faster than I would like, but hey, for 9 hrs of work, well done!

I really love the simplicity of the game. The sound / music gives me the feeling that I'm at my parents and playing an old Commodore64 game. Thanks for that feeling

@random-thoughts I had mode in development where the screen was pretty much flooded with cubes. I cut it out because I thought it might be too difficult. Now I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have! Haha
@kregames Oh that's amazing! I'm glad it could bring back those memories

Decent ramp up but felt the power-ups were lacking. Overall a solid effort given the time you said you knocked it out in.

For a game made in 9 hours, im really impressed. The simple art style looked really good, yet was still very effective. The sound effects were also nice, and the gameplay was solid, albiet easy to max out.

The greatest thing however, was that unlike your previous game, it was *fun*.

Great job.
