Ctrl + S the World! by Fury

YOU NEED A NUMPAD ON YOUR KEYBOARD TO PLAY THIS GAME. (WITH NUMLOCK ON, ALSO)
This is my first game jam game ever! Very exciting. In Ctrl + S the World! the player navigates our little world around through space, using the keypad to eliminate enemies.

Thank you LD38, I'm so glad I did this!!

EDIT: Formatting is being buggy on this page...I had a "how to play" section here earlier, but I guess I'll retype it...I know it's super hard to figure out how to play based off of the 2 second tutorial I put in at the last minute (sorry @richard-michael-smith!)
SO...HOW TO PLAY:
KEYPAD for Swipes. A "Swipe" is a three-number single-direction pattern on the numpad. For example, 9-6-3 is a down swipe in the right column. Down and right swipes are red Up and left swipes are blue Each kind of swipe kills its respective colored enemies! It's a bit weird, but you get used to it pretty quick!
WASD or ARROW KEYS to move
SPACE to activate shield

However, I must admit to having absolutely no idea how to play this. I can move around using the arrow keys or WASD and I can turn my shield on by pressing the Space bar - but I don't seem to be able to get any "Saves". Perhaps I am just being a bit dim but could you provide some more instructions please?
I love your game! Its tough, but not so demanding you can't get that hang of it quickly. The 'keypad-swipe' controls is innovative and satisfying to pull off. Color-coding the enemies based on the direction of swipe needed to take 'em out is brilliant and the swipe sound effect is adorable. I especially loved your 'hand-drawn' UI! Only real nit to pick would be that I'd like to either toggle the shield off/on or just have shield work while the spacebar is held down. Might make it a bit too easy, but it was the only control that bugged me.
First LD, huh? You sure have set the bar high for yourself!
I liked the art style and the music, but the gameplay was a little too much for me.
Love the title, too.
Good job!
The controls are really weird and hard to get used to, but really creative as well. I could see you adding an almost DDR thing in the background in later levels to step up the difficulty. The main problem is just lack of content. It is pretty fun as is.
Also, I love the name, but I'm kind of disappointed that ctrl+s doesn't actually do anything in-game
The collisions on the waves (swipes, I guess) were really loose, but it actually made the game a little easier/more playable so I didn't mind. The shield would've been nice as a toggle, or hold to keep it, but also just a nice to have.
Overall this is a great first game, and honestly a great game overall. Well done!
The music was nice and upbeat and the art was simple but complimentary to the game's mood. Overall, really good job! I'd like to see another game that uses this one's basic mechanic and refines it into something more intuitive.
Keep it up!

It would be cool to see this mechanic in other things.
It seemed like the enemies mostly just sat there, occasionally flying after me, but often just spawning and not moving, not sure if that was intentional or not. I made it to 45 saves before I got bored ^_^.
First time I played, it was full screen, or at least maximized, and graphics were a bit messed up (weird bar on the right, couldn't see all the text, and really hard to tell which cooldown counters were for which rows. Just now I launched it in 800x600 windowed mode and it's *way* better looking and easier to play, might be good for that to be the default =).
The sound effects were pleasant and the music was great.
Good game :)
BTW, small technical note - you shouldn't need to include the PDBs in the download, as those are just debug info.
