Capture.PNG

A Roguelike Social Simulation with Bullet Hell elements thrown in

Controls:

  • WSAD movement

  • Arrow Key shooting

  • Hold Space and use Arrow Keys to switch ammo

Notes:

  • I recommend resizing the window to suit your needs
  • The hitbox of the sentences is a small circle in the center of them
  • No audio :(

Hotfix 1 fixed the following bugs: * Picking up emotional baggage after clearing a Girl will crash the game (null pointer lol) * Doggo eyes stay red after they feel guilty about hurting you, even though they are no longer angry

Haha love the idea of the game, taking Binding of Isaac and turning it in to Bonding of Isaac, but unfortunately the game was just too unfinished. No music, no sound effects, no animations and the pixel graphics aren't that great. But I love the weapons and ammo, props for that!!

@timeload Yeah, I didn't budget my time very well, and got pulled away for several hours. Plus, the logic for each enemy type was about four times as complex as I had expected. If I had a few more hours I'd have several more enemy types. Also, the essential animation is there, but it's just not as pronounced and could really use audio cues and some flashy visual effects! But yeah, the scope of this project was a little out of hand, but I really wanted to #yolo it and actually build something for the ridiculous theme combo I drew: Roguelike + Social Simulation.

@batmanasb That's all part of the ludum dare experience, knowing your skill set and being able to allocate your time accordingly. And I'm definitely with you on the basis that creating a fun game with bad graphics is better than creating a bad game with good graphics, just look at mine haha. If you continued to work on this game and end up polishing it up some more, I'd definitely be interested in playing it some more

The title and weaponry earn this an easy 9/9 in humor (it says it is out of 5, but you can rate it 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, or 5, which is clearly 9 options). Also, unfortunately, I can't give any game that gets a 5 (or 3 stars, if you believe in that sort of thing) or higher in fun anything but a 1 in theme, as that is a clear indication that the genres were, in fact, compatible. Actually, I just rate every game a 1 now. Nothing personal, just need to keep my win streak alive :sunglasses:

I think this is a cool prototype. Really love my fight against the girl in the pink dress. The idea of shoot sentences is interesting, it express the enemy feeling and with a bigger hitbox for bigger sentences. The lack of work in graphic and sound design degrade a little bit the experience but overall it was fun and non glitchy or whatever. Keep up improving yourself :) !

Nice work, I especially like the charming graphics. The details in the tears are great, the way they fall and then slowly soften and grow. I also like the way the way the position/rotation-based animation actually gives a feeling to the different characters, I was surprised at how effectively it conveyed some of the dog's state!

The control scheme of holding space to change modes was a little awkward, especially when I was trying to dodge the girl's attacks and had to stop to remind myself of which comment type was which button, but no big deal.

Small scope but charming, well done!

Fun stuff! I like that the game has a pacifist "combat" mechanic. Nice particle effects with the tears and 11/10 doggos. Thank you for the great feedback on our game as well! Good luck on the compo!

Nice work and a cool idea though it took me awhile to work out the gameplay. I had fun!

very cool concept but i found the dogs just going into a corner and staying there? maybe a bug? love the parody.

@paulhocker not a bug, that doggo is sad that he accidentally hurt you and requires some counseling to make him feel better. (the bottom of the "ammo" selection menu is Counsel)

I also really like the pacifist "combat." Keeping track of the hitboxes on the lines of text was a little difficult since I couldn't visualize the gaps between them like you do in most shooters. But it's definitely cool that the combat manages to tell a story just through which dialogue the characters shoot at each other. The tear animation is definitely a nice touch.

This is so funny I love it. Definitely didn't have the skills to make it past that double-girlfriend room oh man haha.

This is a really nice, wholesome game <3. I like how there is a certain puzzle element to it, trying to figure out what you had to say to win them over, while also maintaining action, bullet hell gameplay at the same time. The lack of audio is disappointing, but I don't have many problems aside from that. Overall, this is a pretty fun and creative little game. Nice work!

Fun game that's rated G! I think. I had a very difficult time figuring out how I was doing...the dog gives no dog clues (tail wag? ears? tongue?) Other than that, it thought it was a clever combo and I liked the "weapon".

Really like this game, the friendly combat is definitely a big plus and works quite well. The visual style is also really cute. As others mentioned, it's kinda hard to determine the hit zone of the texts, maybe you could add a slight indicator like a semi-transparent sprite to visualize it. I could imagine this game being even more amusing and charming with some voice acting.
Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit, good job!

@velocity7 the enemies have state machines, so once you hit them with the correct type of "ammo", there is a distinct change in their behavior as they transition states. It's kind of a puzzle to figure out how to talk them down until their issues are resolved.
